16/10/17 - update: the issue described in the review below has been resolved. The customer service I have received in response to my review below cannot be faulted so I have increased my rating to 4 stars (would have got 5 stars, but ultimately I have to remain a little concerned about the quality of the hedge trimmer attachment (given the fault that developed)). Original post: I purchased a Mitox 281MT approx 5 years ago from a local shop. Whilst it's a multi tool I've actually only used the hedge trimmer on an annual basis for trimming my leylandii garden hedges so its not seen much usage. I've generally been happy with how it's performed, but this year the hedge trimmer attachment broke with the casing breaking open and clearly a mechanical problem. I've been advised by my local shop that Mitox no longer supply the hedge trimmer attachment and a repair would be cost inhibitive thus rendering the machine useless except as an expensive strimmer! Having taken good care of this machine and used it for only light use, I'm really not impressed. I'm even less impressed that Mitox don't supply the replacement part, particularly given all the sales brochure wording about great after sales service. Having spent over £300 on this originally, for the usage its had it would have been cheaper for me to pay £50 a day to hire a hedge trimmer, so in my experience Mitox are not good value for money and they don't provide good after sales service and supply of parts. I certainly won't be buying a Mitox product again based on this very poor experience

Mitox 28MT In late March 2017 I purchased a Mitox 28MT, this tool combines a hedge cutter, brush cutter and chainsaw. The purchase price was £360. When I first assembled the tool I managed to step on and damage the plastic handle. I used the machine with the hedge cutter on three occasions totaling approximately 1 - 2 hours use. On each occasion I found the tool extremely difficult to start, however I was prepared to put this down to my unfamiliarity with the starting procedure. The fourth occasion I used the tool (early July 2017) after the usual struggle to start the engine, i used it, again as a hedge cutter, it worked OK for about 10 minutes however the throttle control then malfunctioned in that, when the throttle was released, the motor continued to run at full speed. This resulted in the drive to the cutter being maintained. In my opinion a highly dangerous fault. Within a day or so I returned the tool to the dealer, where the fault was diagnosed as "the engine sucking in air" I pointed out the damaged handle and requested a new be ordered at my expense. The dealership retained the tool for repair. Just under two months later I was informed the tool had been repaired, it was unclear from the account offered to me if the fault was with the carburetor or ignition pack or due to a split found in the manifold. In any event the new handle had not appeared. The dealer decided the problem was the split in the manifold and concluded that as the carrying handle was broken the manifold must have been damaged when "I dropped the tool and damaged the handle." This conclusion was arrived at without any further enquiry of myself on how the handle was broken. The outcome of this thought process was a bill for £73 payable as the warranty was now invalid. After a less than civil discussion it was agreed the matter would be dealt with as a legitimate warranty claim and the bill was waived. Had that been the end of the matter then I suppose i would just let the matter pass. Regrettably, however, a few days later I once again set about my hedge or at least I would have had I been able to start the wretched thing. It now languishes in the back of the rear shed, I shall not try again. Life is to short to spend hours trying to start a hedge cutter. I now have no faith in the machine and even less in the dealer. I would give it away but do not dislike anyone that much. One day I will take an angle grinder to it and scrap it!

Have had the mitox 281 mt for 5years ,in that time it has actually been used for 10-15 hrs.Starting it is if you are lucky, changing tools impossible unless you have several hours to spend.Thought for the price it would be a reliable machine but I got that wrong. My advice is to avoid Mitox ,the old adage of you get what you pay for in this case is true.Appearing at a tip near you I give you the the Mitox 281 mt.

I maintain a very large and lengthy hedge surrounding my cousin's garden and for many years I have used a normal hedgetrimmer and handheld loper, climbing up and down ladders - taking weeks to do the pruning! Having taken the plunge and buying a Mitox longhandled hedgetrimmer the task now can be achieved in a matter of days. I had researched a number of longhandled hedgetrimmers and thought that the Mitox I recently purchased represented the best price/quality. So far I have been very happy with the performance of the machine. My only criticism is the positioning of the on/off switch - I find it too easy to knock it into the off position by accident when repositioning my hands.

Hedge-cutter was delivered to my chosen agent who checked it out and showed me how to start it. I am pleased with the machine. It's longer and far more powerful than my previous electric unit and I don't have to worry about cutting any wires by accident. I had never heard of Mitox but decided on them after reading lots of reviews. I have cut a large Beech hedge in much less time than I was used to and the machine was powerful enough to cut through most of the twigs and branches.

Just bought a Mitox MT28 multi tool garden machine from our local dealer AC Garden Machinery in Kilmarnock, the customer service has been great, got busy as soon as I got home using the chainsaw attachment! Fantastic result, hope to use the hedge trimmer attachment in the incoming week . Mitox seem to provide excellent machinery at sensible prices. John Watson

I bought a long reach hedge trimmer direct from Mitox and asked for it to be delivered to my nearest dealer. It was a delightful experience all round. Have been using it for a full day and it performs well on my large unruly hedge. Will use Mitox again

I recently bought a Mitox 26-MT26P 4 in 1 multi tool for tending to my garden & allotments. I have used Mitox commercially in the past & the build quality, aftersales & servicing are second to none. The toll itself is a high quality robust strimmer, brushcutter, pole pruner & hedge trimmer & I have every confidence in using it for the myriad of horticultural tasks. Mitox represents excellent value for money as it's as good as the market leaders, but with brilliant aftersales & servicing that many cheap units don't have.
