Findmypast, 185 Fleet Street, EC4A 2HS, London, GB
Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
The cost is high and that makes it hard to confirm or trace, not accessible to everyone.
Excellent results so far. I am not quite sure how to get the most from your discoveries, nor how to cross-check which ancestors are actually mine - with parents whose names are extremely common ones (Ford and Bell) this is hardly surprising. But well done so far.
I am finding using the site challenging in some ways. I was gifted a 3 month membership, and don't have a lap top so just using my phone. In the Home page, there are lots of articles and blogs, but when I try to open them it says ' oops something went wrong. Close the app and try again'.This has been happening daily for 2 weeks! I am finding census info easily but most other searches come back as no results, so might just be me not giving right info. Hope I get better with practice!
I am not happy. The site crashes frequently and is very clunky. I am having difficulty editing\revising information and I am not an incompetent user of websites. At the moment my family tree is not working and I am frequently messaged to close the App and reopen it- as in begin again. I would actually like after only 2 days to have a full refund and not bother with the App anymore
Had subscription for short time to research info I couldn’t find elsewhere.
It was the first time I had used hints on my small tree. I didn’t find it very easy perhaps because use left it it and had over 50 hints to sort out.
I have transferred my tree details to Find My Past. You can monitor your tree for free and are also given hints. The hints seem to be always with an original record or transcription, which is better than hints from someone else's tree which do not have any evidence for authenticity. Some hints are free, so I can still use Find My Past while not being able to afford a higher membership.
I Signed up for a week free trial to check if they had any new info but did not any new info other then that I found on my Ancestry Account so cancelled before the free period ran out. I did this on my Account Section but was still charged for the next month's fee $20.70 AUD and I have asked for a refund of this amount but have not had any response as yet.
Have used their free 7 day option. I found lots of relatives. I am now going to use their monthly option to go back even further.
Ease of subscription renewal and depth of content in the files
I have decided to fill in my family tree and so far finding the journey relatively easy. I have encountered one or two hiccups but have managed to overcome them.
Was able to find long lost family . Also look for siblings. Look for birth certificates.
despite numerousearches, they find the record of myuncle'marriage and death, but not his birth. don't waste time or money withthese people. i am so disappointed. adverts promise so much, but they can't deliver one simple fact
While I really like the availability of the number of different records I have had issues with some being unavailable at times. I assume this is a technical problem but can be frustrating. Generally an excellent resource.
I couldn't find what I was looking for. As I am the only one left on my Mam and dad's side of the family I really don't know we're to begin. I have got name's but that's all. And some dates. Can you help me.
Th invitations to fond a relative's record is dishonest and confusing. It is Time wasting for me and discourages me from using find my past to search individuals For example a recent posting supposedly claiming you had new South African records opened to the same old start page and there was no way to find S.A. records.
I am both with Ancestry and Find My Past. I find Ancestry much easier to build a tree. It's easier to add and delete something. Saying that, I have been able to find some documents on Find My Past where I have'nt been able to on Ancestry. Also, I find Ancestry easier to add to full profiles. I have no major complaints on either. Both have something good going for them.
A really good genealogy site, you'd struggle to find better
They offers a range of records, but many are behind additional paywalls even after subscribing. The site also lacks some international records, limiting its usefulnes... I expected more inclusive access.
Its just because I can't always look at certain things on my membership. I appreciate it does cost, but it gets annoying . I chose this one because it was the easiest one to negotiate. Apart from that it's an OK family tree site . But I love the puzzle not that I get it right .
