Findmypast, 185 Fleet Street, EC4A 2HS, London, GB
Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
Liked the extensive record set. Disliked the ease of use and duplication of facts. Found it takes too many steps to get back to my tree. Also found multiple versions of the same fact - the system should not allow duplication of facts. Do not like the pictures that accompany hints, they are generic and add no value. Also, it is not clear how to do a search on a person.
Have been able to trace back my husband family so far to great grandparents differently recommended Findmypast
I like the fact I found my long lost friends birth certificate but I have no way of contacting him like there’s no numbers or anything been found just where he was born and his full name
Was easy to find information and build up a tree.
I find the newish format of the newspapers much more difficult to navigate.
Dont understand as to why it is so expensive, plus if there was an update to add to family tree and i clicked correct the site tries ro charge me. I have tried every site and cannot find a cheaper or free option
Great website very interesting helpfull full of surprises with what you find out about family very important to know thx you
Everything is easily accessible and clear. I loved the website--but not the chunk of money it costs for someone who lives on a limited income as a retiree. Perhaps consider some breaks for Seniors!
It’s brilliant but a bit expensive
I find “Find my Past” the most useful family site to use. I use the site at my local library. I have recommended your site to friends who are starting their family trees.
Find it difficult to use & cannot find what I’ve been looking for
Easy to use. Percentage for findings helps locate family
I had already begun the family tree a few years ago, but I was having trouble locating some ancestors. I saw an advert for Find my Past, and although I've not signed up with them, or taken advantage of the free week, I have managed to corroborate the information I already had. Unlike other sites I have used, Find my Past give you enough information to be useful, but not so much that you are blinded by it, but I expect that all depends on how much information you have in the beginning. I know a little about searching because I learnt a bit when taking my degree, but I think that Find my Past would be a boon to people who don't know where to begin in the search for their ancestors.
easy to navigate
I'm enjoying finding out more information about my partners family. I am not great with technology so sometimes struggle to navigate from one section to another but I'm confident the more I use the pages the easier I will find it.
I would like to see a payment where it is not a subscription
Sends me hints that I can then look into
A great place to begin. Before taking the free trial and subscription, you can build the foundations based on what you know about your family, and asking other family members for birthdays, siblings etc.
A great platform that values loyal customers.
A warning to everyone. Find My Past have been found to be storing information from trees to sell on to others. I have subscribed to an information removal company who have identified Find My Past as being associated with Identity theft, Spam mail and calls, Data leaks and Targeted advertising. They have removed all my data, but I don't know if they have kept information that was linked to my family tree. A very sneeky company praying on people to give them all the information. I would urge everyone to do the same.
