Findmypast, 185 Fleet Street, EC4A 2HS, London, GB
Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
Complete scam. They sign you up for monthly payments and when you try to cancel, they tell you they can’t do anything about it. Do not join this company. I don’t even know how the subscription started as I’ve not used their services ever so be wary of that too.
Despite paying for one month I can’t see any records without having to upgrade. I only want to see the 1939 register!!
One of the best family tree apps I have used.
Easy to start doing family tree with hints and tips.
I found it took sometime to learn how to navigate different areas of Findmypast. Findmypasts records on the East India company proved very helpful with the British Library who normally hold these records still recovering from its cyber attack.
Really easy to use and very clear. Lots of information and certainly helps to research your family
Found it to be okay, but too expensive for what you can access
Excellent access to data and archive resourses. Quite moving to discover new distant relatives. Just takes time
Not impressed with this app. Very clunky to use with a mobile phone which is my preferred choice of devices. Not intuitive and difficult to link or connect people you've added to your tree. Won't be subscribing to this.
as an elderly person I found it very confusing - did not discover anything about my Irish families which was disappointing
The fact that l can rely on FMP to locate the correct information.l enjoy using the site and l think it's good value for money.
I did not succeed in reaching a result and do not wish to pay to have an account
Site keeps crashing
During the short period that I have been with Findmypast I have had difficulty logging in, I wasn’t recognises because of the address or password. At last a support person, Annie, took the time to step by step ask pertinent questions and was able to answer the problem. She then went through what I should do and followed up with an email in case of a fault.
Easy interface; lots of helpful records
I was tempted and signed up for a free trial after reading an advert for the company. Over the Christmas holiday I did not have much oportunity to use the site so imagine my horror as a pensioner when I got an email stating my free trial had ended and that the company had charged me £199.99 for a YEARS subscription, not a month but a full year! Obviously that is the default setting which in my opinion is not good. I have asked for a refund and will post an update if there is a satisfactory outcome. Update: I can confirm that a refund has been issued. I still feel the company should issue more notice that the trial period is ending and how much you will be charged however, to their credit the refund was swift.
FamilySearch is far further ahead of the game, providing AI 'Full Text' search of handwritten documents in its collection. When is FindMyPast going to catch up.
Customer services very helpful
Difficult to navigate. Newspaper search clinky.
Easy to use , have found a couple of documents through find my past
