Findmypast, 185 Fleet Street, EC4A 2HS, London, GB
Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
Research abilities of this site are all self service, nothing of great interest on this site.
sorry my mistake ,
I really couldn’t understand this website, it is certainly not intuitive and didn’t seem to have any guidelines to help you set up a family tree.
Too many hints that cover the whole of the country and do not apply but you have to work through. At £25 pm too expensive especially December when there is too much else going on. Printing off the tree to use where internet is not available seems to be export to excel and then print off.
This was a very useful resource to find members of my past family.
I have found no new information, as I have had all previous details from Family Search
As a newcomer, I am trying all the main sites and regard fmp as the most intuitive and productive system.
Ease of use. Very easy to relate links.
Found who I was looking for no trouble
I can finnd family members easier and when i ask family memebers if these things are true it is always correct. The only thing I think that could be improved is that you should be able to except things without reviewing if it already says 100% match.
Like all these genealogy sites you have to spend too much money to find out anything!
I've been using findmypast for several years. Initially my research enabled me to extend the knowledge of my family tree through a growing collection of censuses, birth, marriage and death records, and parish records. I added multiple generations of unknown ancestors - and found very significant amounts of personal information quite readily accessible. More recently, the availability of the growing National Newspaper Archive has provided a massive whole new dimension. It's pretty useful for family history especially if you are searching for unusual names or locations. It has some quite clever tools though to search for combinations of names/places/events/words etc. which helps find those more common names. The only problem I find is that it's so easy to be distracted by an adjacent story in a newspaper, and suddenly I'm reading a report on the Ashes Test, or Mussolini's Abyssinian invasion, or an insightful letter from a reader about how society will have to change when the men come home from the Great War, but the women don't want to go back to the kitchen. An endlessly fascinating treasure trove. Having established my family tree on a free standing software tool, I have only latterly started to add it to the website. I will be interested to see whether this makes life easier/more interesting. I'm not yet particularly convinced. Loading information and navigating seem a bit 'steady', but I'll give it a chance.
Once I sussed out how to navigate the program I've enjoyed using it, the hints are very helpful.
A good sized collection of documents. The navigation on the website could be improved. I find it difficult to get back to my tree on occasions. When adding census data I find I end up with multiple birth dates. I've been using MyHeritage for the last 9 months and find adding transcriptions from census, birth, marriage & death data much easier. Findmypast has a better collection of documents available.
I really like Findmypast because it is so easy to make a family tree. Since my family is from India, there are obviously no records from there. But, with help from family, I've been able to make a 100 person family tree, which my everyone is impressed with. The only thing I would say that is bad about Findmypast is that since I have such a large family tree, you can't view everyone at once and I would like that to be. Other than that small issue, Find my past is (in my opinion) the best Family Tree website and I would recommend it over other sites.
I do not find the website helpful; for a novice there is no easy how to section. I would like to see birth, death and marriage certificates but there is no guidance on how to do so.
Always helpful online contact.
Findmypast has a user-friendly
Loving the fact that you are UK based. It makes it much easier to search.
