It's hard to explain

I used a free trial and the resources on FindMyPast were fantastic especially access to the 1921 census and the 1939 Register (as there is no availability of the 1931 census as it was destroyed by fire). I also liked the newspaper stories too. However I couldn't justify the cost of ongoing membership and they take away your access to the family tree you have built so you can't even view it. You can download a Gedcom file but you have to remember to do that before your access ends. Post FindMyPast Response - Thank you for replying and letting me know I do have access to the tree and Gedcom file. I think it might have just been a glitch on the final day when my free trial access ended as I was "kicked out" of the website so I thought I couldn't get to my tree and Gedcom file anymore. It has worked since seeing your response.

I belong to a local history society and I have found the newspaper section first rate for research purposes. Prior to using this section I managed to trace my family back to 1680 on your search facility. I am enjoying a fascinating time on the FMP site and will renew my subscription in March 2025.

The site is easy to navigate and holds a plethora of information.

Information seemed hard to find. Even when I typed in exact dates, names and places, there were thousands of names to trawl through. The initial search did not let me add defining information, eg. name of spouse or children. I liked the clarity of the transcriptions.
