Very good and rewarding
Am very impressed.
Find My Past sought to assist me in finding my relatives/ancestors. The website has a great format. I would like the ability to search by name and the be able to exclude those matches who are nit part if my tree. Additionally, I would like to have better control in editing the matches and the tree members. Editing successfully has been a large issue.
I found it difficult to add my ancestors to my family tree, nothing seemed straightforward. Not an easy site to navigate. The records may be fine if you can find them. Sorry did not enjoy my experience.
Some searches are difficult. Put in a name and get back lots of totally irrelevant people. Very frustrating!
Useful for newspapers but you have to download them all or you cant see them once you dont have a paid sub. Not all church records as advertised. Too many records could be found FREE on Family Search. No customer service at weekends. Expensive. Slow to load pages. Difficult to search from within a person profile & difficult to save records to that person. Can't find records I needed.
No help at all.
Straight forward to identify and access relevant information.
You people are not genealogists. Plus you people are not web designers.,
A lot of useful information especially from the newspaper archive.
Finding further information about my relatives
I have been a subscriber to this site for more that 10 years. I find it user friendly and with a good hall of records for my British & European ancestors. Sadly, my South African ancestors have not had their records added to this sires hall of records.
I like the way the records are available.
Fairly straight forward being able to find relatives on my family tree, still more to go but has clarified some details.
At this time I am looking for part off my wifes Family who seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth AND THE SITE HAS HANDED ME SOME GOOD LEADS, only time will tell .
It’s amazing and so useful
Great website, but the subscription is too expensive.
Managed to find lots of information especially with access to the 1921 census
Lots of records available. Search is fast. Navigation and usability are very poor. Just finding a person in my tree is terrible. Tree view jumps around - obsessed with the focused person. No way to merge duplicates. Failed to import media properly (GEDCOM) - the items are present but unavailable. Failed to import one tree, worked on 2nd occasion. When I find a record via a person's profile this is not remembered and I have to select the person again to add to the tree. Often fails to add related people from records. I could go on. I would not want to build my tree using this. UPDATE: support seems responsive. The newspaper articles are very useful, though the searching only uses one name variant. The matching of hint information to that already in the tree is lamentable. It matches residence and occupation records seemingly randomly, without using dates. I have just seen it fail to spot that I already have someone's wife in the tree. Navigation is truly baffling. If they don't import media from GEDCOM why do they let the import create 'empty' records? I am using this as a supplement to my main tree on another site. I could not trust Find My Past to create anything consistent and sensible. UPDATE: no way to tell it that it has mismatched a record with a person. Ancestry lets you do this. So easy to create duplicates that you cannot then merge. Mismatching of residence & other records means so much data is lost. Cannot see records/media attached to other tress so they are useless. Don't expect to build anything coherent with this.
I've been using another well known genealogy site for quite some years now and decided to give FMP a 3 month try, mainly for access to the 1921 census. I'm finding the site easy to use and am pleased to be able to access newspaper announcements and parish records. My 3 months subscription will definitely be getting renewed as I seem to be breaking down a lot of brick walls with FMP.
