Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
I've not been able to find anything about I've been looking for unfortunately
We took advantage of 7 days free access to check the 1921 Census. Findmypast is easy to use, and fairly comprehensive.
HAVE TO PAY AND LOGIN TO USE CENSUSs, 1939 Register. Then u want me to sign up. Why has so many companies got ownership of free information.
very easy to use finding my irish history was great
I found it easy to navigate and the hints are really helpful
I searched the newspaper archive for various family members with either unusual names or with a known news story. I found plenty references for these subjects and I was impressed with the ease of use for clipping each news story to download into my own personal archive.
Excellent service
Easy to use clear instructions
Mostly UK records. A bit too expensive for me.
I like having census records and newspaper articles available. So far I’ve found that my earlier ancestors are easier to find on Family Search. Even though I enter their correct details on your site it comes back with ‘no result’
Ease of use for me
A very good interface which makes research an easy task
Find my past offers fabulous hints of ancestors gone by, you can review and accept and they are instantly added to your tree.
On the trial, Find my past did not find out anything I didn’t know! They sent me info about the date and place of death of my mother, which I knew. They also spelt her name incorrectly.
Comprehensive site and I suspect good value if just starting out and subscribing to start your journey. However the ‘free access’ advertised recently offered only limited access without subscribing to see detail.
The rich amount of information about my family.
FMP release new records on a weekly basis so today the range of information to be found is vast and with access to British newspapers which provide the "meaty" bits of gossip and give tantalising insight into the daily lives of ancestors that is not available on official records, the resource is extremely valuable. A worthy site to subscribe to or when available being able to take advantage of the periods of free access to enable those brick walls to tumble is a definite bonus.
Mostly my experience has been excellent and rewarding. Hence I've given four stars. I appreciate that the transcripts found on FMP are less free of errors than at the major competitor site. However, when I do find a transcription error, the process of correcting it seems unnecessarily clunky. For instance, to correct an error that pertains to all household members in a census (e.g., an error in the family name) one has to submit the correction (and its justification) individually for each person. This can be done much more easily elsewhere. I appreciate the care with which potential corrections are reviewed (which isn't apparent elsewhere) and almost all that I've submitted have received agreement. Bottom line is, please make it easier for those of us who want to improve things for other searchers at this already worthy site.
This was above a first class expert when first used about three years ago. After a break of a year or so, I now find that certain bits have noe been removed, so not quite as user friendly.
For £9.99 per month you don’t get anything, very poor
