Findmypast, 185 Fleet Street, EC4A 2HS, London, GB
Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
Moving between records is cumbersome, there needs to be a way of sorting your searches, from total to reject to could be useful to very useful. It could be that you can do this, but I haven’t found it yet.
Just started and finding it hard, been with Ancestry for years which is easier.
I have been using find my past while it was free to use over the weekend, it is very easy to navigate & full of useful information, I'd highly recommend the site if doing your family tree, or looking up records.
Easy to navigate and build up information and your tree
After a free trial, I found more information on FMP than I have after many years with another genealogy site I was subscribed to. I find the site easy to navigate. I had a query relating to my subscription and this was dealt with swiftly by CS team. Most impressed. I now look forward to 12 months of searching my history.
Access to census and bdm certs.. really liked the census family tree
FindMyPast is good for research in England. When you find a document it is easy to download or print a copy. It is easy and doesn't take long to copy the Transcriptions. (Edited: From the reply "When looking at our transcriptions if you click the 'Copy to Clipboard' option this will allow you to paste the transcript directly into a word document." Yes, I know, and this is what I did. That's why I said it's easy to do. Also, when copied the Transcriptions stay in order, unlike another site where the information is in columns and when you paste it, it comes out, out of order so you have to edit it to put it back in order. This takes time. You don't have to do this on FindMyPast.) This is helpful if you are making your own Tree, not just one on FindMyPast, and if you want to keep copies of what you find. You can see the originals of the censuses, and the previous and next page in the census, that's helpful. You cannot see the next page on another site. I had a couple at the bottom of the page and could not see if there were more Household members over the page on the other site, whereas on FindMyPast you can forward the page and see. I found some interesting information in the newspaper archive. It was easy to clip the articles and copy the sources. There are Passenger Lists. The site works well and is easy to use.
I don't like being sent messages about hints I can't see, & I have no way of determining if they're my ancestors or not. I may want a paid membership some day, but I have more than I can handle with Ancestry at the moment.
The 1939 register and 1921 Census have been revealing.
Great site Would join if you had a monthly subscription instead of billed annually. Why its 3 stars instead of 5.
Easy to use site.
The whole experience is great 👍
I think find my past have a lot of records that other family history search sites don’t have. I don’t find it the easiest site to navigate. Even so it’s probably a must for family historians
It was easy to navigate. The only problem is I can't afford a subscription
I have a subscription with my Heritage which runs out next April.I will most definitely not renew I will be joining Find My Past.I found it easy to use and to be honest far more informative.
Findmypast is a great place to find out about your relatives, the places that they lived, and local information and stories that you can research in the newspapers. So much information!
The site is very awkward to navigate. I don't like the format of the family trees. I like to see the original documents which were not always available. Having access to the 1921 census was good, however I feel that the 1939 register gave more details.
Are Irish records more difficult to access? Could I click in to the 1911 and other censuses more easily?
Easy to navigate and the hints save a lot of research time. Ability to construct tree on my tablet and not have to write everything down.
We were promptly shown to our table and given time to review the menu before our order was taken. The quality of the food was up to its usual high standard.
