Findmypast, 185 Fleet Street, EC4A 2HS, London, GB
Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
I have been searching my family tree for several years and Findmypast is a great source of information. I subscribe to two sites and Findmypast is the one I use the most. I find the search facility easy to use and to narrow down the search. I have found several interesting articles that include family members in the newspaper collection.
The free pass I was able to use was very good. I’m sorry but at the moment I just can’t afford to pay to carry on. I liked the fact you sent emails with hints,
Spend hours finding stuff out about my past family tree I never knew, the best thing I ever joined up to andI will continue to do so. I have recommended find my past to friends. Easy to use, plenty ofinformation
It’s ok but it’s far too expensive. And you go round in circles trying to find things.
Thought Ancestry was better
Full of never-ending information
It is easy to find people and fact check what you do know such as location they lived and around the time they were born. I liked that it was easy to use.
Thanks to a cousin who has gathered a lot of data previously and forwarded the info to myself I have succeeded in building a decent family tree in a couple of days. Unfortunately I have been unable to locate other relatives despite my having dates of birth and death provided by my cousin. Unless I have more success in the next few days I will probably not bother with a full subscription. The majority of my relatives were born and lived in Scotland and the ones I cannot locate fall into that category.
Wonderful idea to have free access over the Remembrance Weekend. I had started my family tree about a decade ago with a different site. Find My Past is much easier and its app is easy to use too. I was immersed and found out loads of information, so signed up for the 7 day free trial. I’ve found out even more - list histories that were just a vague half remembered story. The only complaint is that the app and laptop don’t update in real time - and it’s not easy to remove just one person easily and reinsert them to a different parent without deleting a whole line
Used the free weekend access. Found it good but it's expensive to buy the full package
As a first time user I found it harder than your rival site to search for records in the ancestor I was looking at.
Excellent way to research your family history. It's easy to use. Highly recommended.
It's a confusing website. If I am honest I prefer the layout of Ancestry.
The free access to records was really useful
I heard of ‘Find My Past’ when I was listening to ‘The Rest is History’ podcast. I was a bit apprehensive at first, because I originally didn’t know much about my ancestors. Find My Past made it so simple, with a great use of ‘hints’ to help you discover more family members. I now have 50+ people in my family tree - and counting!
very impressed with "hints" speeded up finding earlier links in the chain
Enjoyed free access in November- especially 1939 records.
So easy to use,i am getting good results
I find this to be one of the best companies for research but I find it a bit too expensive to use on a regular basis, I sometimes use the library for free access so it was great to recently get a free weekend in the comfort of my own home. This would definitely be my choice to do my family history however it is too costly for me.
Its good to find information and has a lot of searches, the only disappointment is if you stop your payment (due to cost of living as its not cheap) you can not review your list even when you have paid for that information you can not have another look which is wrong as you have paid for it so does put you off looking and setting up. I think any information you have paid you should still be able to see it
