Findmypast, 185 Fleet Street, EC4A 2HS, London, GB
Findmypast is a homegrown family history company that helps people discover their origins. It started in the UK but now has millions of customers around the world, who use its family records to trace ancestors, build family trees and contact distant relatives.
I like Findmypast, and it is relatively easy to use compared with some other sites. Maybe a video of how to get the best from the site and the features it has would be useful for beginners. I have been using this site for a little while and am still not sure how some things work, otherwise I would have given it an extra star.
Useful hints have resulted in a quick expansion of my family tree and linked me in some cases to data in the 1921 census. I am trying to take a planned approach to searching for family in 1921 and documenting the data in my records. I am using specific searches and hints to help me with this. I am hoping I can find other sources of information through the FYP website but I am still finding my way around the site and working out how best to search for specific information.
I love the fact you can make family trees and add on your relituves as you search them
Communication
It is not as easy as I hoped to navigate. Also trying to find what I want on 1921 census is near on impossible. Really quite disappointed.
This is a great way to find your family history, but it's always worth double checking the information, as some will be misspelt or dates may change in information transfer
The best Genealogy site I have come across. Beats it's rivals by miles. As you look for one record it finds associated records for that person and suggests them at the bottom. Works hard with local History Societies to not only get local history records, but the original image/document. There is so much more to say, it is truly awesome.
I really like the Hints about potential family members including potential links to other family trees, this makes expanding my family tree so much easier to do. I also like the option to accept or reject potential Hints before adding to your family tree.
Easy to collect the vast amount of information that is contained on the site.
it was so lovely looking at the 1921 census for my grandparents and confirming what i thought i knew about where they were living and seeing the list of siblings i still struggle with creating the tree itself and viewing it, so stick to drawing it on various sheets of paper
easy to use and get information
I cannot give a star rating as I do not have a subscription with you. I unfortunately prescribed to ancestry by mistake who I find very hard to use and cannot find what I am searching for.
Very easy to navigate, great set up for every age, it's worth the money if you can get what you want and more. Also read a few articles regarding my great grandad who was wounded with grenade shrapnel and taken prisoner against a notorious regiment known for cruel barbaric treatment of enemy prisoners. The Japanese soldiers fought well in burma and nearly won the war in burma. He had PTSD from the war, he suffered nightmares from his memories and he suffered them in a severe state of emotional distress. He was born in 1917 and passed away in 2008 aged 91 from a fall, he was hoovering his living room when he tripped on the cable from the vacuum cleaner and broke his spine in two when he fell on to a fragile part of his spine a curvature cause by age which slowly progressed but caused a considerable hunch along with arthritis and osteoporosis. He passed away a week later
I found your site very confusing to use and stongly disliked the way facts were presented in records
it was super interesting finding out about all my ancestors and all their details however downgraded by the fact that 90% of the records and data on their you have to pay for but kind of understandable as they have to make money in some way i would rather the website have adverts son that my experience is not disappointing but so also the find my past company can make money.
Great site. Easy to navigate.
Easy to use and understand Will get into compiling a tree next time
Free but need to sign up - not free
Is surprised how quickly that came up
Joined up for a free trial and decided to continue with a membership as I found out more information on my ancestors than on some previous websites . Tree is easy to build and lots of hints given including newspapers which has revealed more
