SENsational Tutors Ltd. provide private, specialist SEN tutors to work with children and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN) including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, language delay, behavioural needs, and other specific academic and behavioural needs. Our mission is to boost confidence and inspire a love of learning through bespoke, fun, one-to-one learning sessions.
We tried a couple of different tutors before coming to SENsational tutors and so glad we did. My sons tutor, Krista has such a good understanding of how to communicate effectively with him. I feel this successful relationship is due to her ability to understand him and draw on her own personal experiences of helping a child to achieve their potential through helpful hints, tips, methods and techniques. My son used to avoid English lessons, now he actually enjoys them and is surprising himself with his achievements. His confidence is slowly growing and I am very grateful to Krista for helping us to find a way of unlocking his potential and putting a smile back on his face! It's an ongoing process but I feel this is the first time we have ever made substantial progress. If you are looking for help which is more specialised than standard tutoring I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company.
When I heard we were about to enter our third lockdown, I was really concerned about my son’s learning, and that he would fall behind. I was fortunate enough to stumble on this page whilst looking for tutors that specialise in supporting children with SEN. They were very responsive, and within a couple of days was talking to a potential tutor. Daniel arrived soon after to meet my son and I was so impressed with how he engaged with him, that I was convinced that they were a great match. It’s been almost a month now and despite challenges with his focus, he has adapted his teaching to enable his engagement with the learning, he has also supported him with his literacy, phonics and maths in a way that's interactive and creative. I am very pleased with the experience and it's a relief to know that my son is being supported by a competent and resourceful teacher.
Provider of fantastic tutors who are professional, knowledgeable and best of all fun and engaging. Very good communication which is speedy and to the point.
Miss Joanna Gibbs, the Founder and Director, makes a potentially challenging experience of finding a suitable tutor a fully-assisted exploration journey. Her expertise in the field of SEN and superb communication skills allowed me to be matched with a suitably qualified (and experienced) tutor for whom I can only be grateful!
SENsational Tutors have been exceptional from the start! They gathered a full understanding of my son's considerable learning needs through phone calls and meetings before matching him with suitable tutors. Following agreed targets, the tutors, Sarah and Linda, have both built wonderful rapports with my son whilst delivering varied, fun and productive lessons. Both tutors have adapted to online sessions when necessary and we have been so impressed with how they have managed to engage Ollie in these. We have seen significant progress in literacy and maths as well as in Ollie's confidence which is wonderful! We are so happy and grateful to have found SENsational tutors.
My daughter has ADHD and ASD so school work was tough for her. Sabrina her tutor) really makes a difference, my daughter really looks to the sessions.
Elaine is a terrific SEN tutor! Elaine is very experienced when it comes to supporting students with special needs including autism. Making every experience a fun, engaging and academically enriching one for the children she works with. Elaine is compassionate, creative and a joy to work alongside. I would recommend her as a tutor at a moment's notice.
Our daughter (14 years old) has just successfully completed her first month of online classes with her SENsational tutor Krista. From the very first interview we had a good feeling Krista was going to be an excellent match; there was no judgment from her even though our daughter was socially uncomfortable and had her hair covering most of her face, Krista was just easy and engaging and had our daughter laughing by the end of the conversation. It was certainly a great recommendation from Joanna, the director of SENsational tutors, to encourage our daughter to help select her own tutor. After removing our daughter from school before Christmas, as she was suffering from panic attacks during maths class from not understanding anything, to knowing she is now comfortably learning at her own pace being taught by Krista who is skilled and patient to break sums down and repeat as often as needed, allowing our daughter to re-gain her self confidence. Thank you Krista and Joanna.
From the first email to the first phone call, Joanna has been a super star in helping us find the right tutor for our daughter. Unlike others, SENsational Tutors took time to listen to our needs and to understand the issues we were facing as a family. her recommendation for Krista was the best we could have hoped for. Our daughter has managed with ease to find a routine with her tutor and approach each lesson with interest and focus, knowing she is making progress and knowing Krista is there to help her. Thank you.
Amazing tutors- helpful and professional
My beautiful adopted son has Learning Disabilities, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and poor working memory. He also has ADHD and challenging behaviours including poor self regulation. He is only accessing 26% of Year 1 Curriculum and he's in Year 4. I reached out to SensationalTutors and within a few weeks my son has not only got a tutor but a friend in John. John is thoughtful, determined and committed to support us as a family and my son educationally. For the first time since my son has been in school, and for two weeks running, he has got full marks in his Spelling Test. I don't know what magic John's performing but its working!! I am hugely grateful.
After a diagnosis of Dyslexia for our Son Kishan we were put in touch with SENsational Tutors and Joanna. Joanna was wonderful matching us with our Tutor Lauren. Lauren immediately understood Kishan's needs and bonded with him from the start. Lauren has been working with Kishan for 1 year and getting him prepared for Entrance Exams as well as helping him with building his confidence and bringing his English and Maths up to an amazing standard. We began lessons face to face where we found Kishan was hugely engaged with Lauren and the learning and did have concerns that the zoom learning would mean that this suffered, but this was not the case the zoom lessons worked incredibly well and he has blossomed. He has gone from only being able to write a single paragraph to full on constructed essays and stories. I can't praise Lauren enough we think she is wonderful and we look forward to continuing the relationship.
I needed a gentle, take-your-time tutor who could go through 11+ maths with my mildly dyslexic daughter, who has never warmed to the subject. She needed to revise maths such as fractions she hadn't quite got yet at a slower pace, with problems broken down into small segments, and SENsational Tutors found a great match in Lauren. Lauren was patient and understood just how much to stretch my daughter without getting to the point where she simply won't concentrate or listen. She went through practice papers over zoom when we were in full lockdown, just before the exams. As a result, she has already been offered a place at one school so far...
Difficult to know where to start with this review as I am convinced that Obeng is an angel! My daughter Gabriella, had a difficult start and has always struggled to meet the levels that the curriculum demanded of her. After a recent parent consultation I was advised of how far below her year group she was performing and I began to lose all hope. I knew I had a very smart child on my hands but for some reason she was struggling to access learning at school. Particularly maths. Totally at the end of my tether, I took to the internet and stumbled across a page which offered tutoring for children with special educational needs. I contacted Joanna at SENsational tutors and after some deliberation, we were expertly matched with Obeng. From the very first lesson, he found some way of tapping into Gabriella’s personality. She was able to fully recite and write down her two times tables independently after he left and practised eagerly, every day, until she saw him again. Something she would never have been able, nor had the inclination, to do before. I knew we were onto a good thing. Her confidence and ability have gone from strength to strength. This is a child who was frightened of the very mention of the word maths. Sometimes when I observe their sessions, I can hardly believe this is the same child. Obeng goes to whatever lengths are necessary to meet your child exactly where they are. Always coming up with innovative ways to engage with her. They laugh and joke like old friends but always get the job done. It is honestly, quite a beautiful thing to behold. Thank you Obeng, for igniting the fire in my special little girl!
The tutors on Sensational tutors are excellent. With years of experience, they are friendly, warm and brilliant at engaging students. Tutors are responsive to individual needs and adapt their style and pace accordingly. The process of finding a tutor is slick and professional, due care is taken to make sure that a successful match is made. Joanna, the company director does this through her personal involvement which ensures the needs of each child are fully met.
As a parent of two children with a variety of SEN, I have found SENsational tutors to be extremely professional and prioritise understanding the individual support required. SENsational Tutors represent a variety of tutors who are all highly qualified and experienced. Joanna and the tutors pride themselves on a high level of communication, keeping parents and tutees informed regularly of updates and progress. Lessons are always well planned and tailored to meet the specific needs and personality of the individual tutees. Finding the perfect support for your child with SEN is made so much easier by asking SENsational Tutors to help you through the process.
I came across sensational tutors through an internet search looking for someone to help my 7 year old with her English and Maths, she has always struggled with attention, focus, and understanding. I didn’t realise how bad it was until homeschooling during lockdown, it was just impossible! Joanna at Sensational Tutors really took the time to learn about my concerns and talked about what Holly might need, she choose two tutors who she thought would match well with Holly, I reviewed their profiles and I knew that Amy was the right one! Amy has taught Holly some amazing (yet simple) techniques to help her focus, help her breakdown tasks, and she is doing well! And Amy has done it all virtually, we’ve even managed cooking lessons ☺️ Amy has shown Holly and myself that she genuinely cares and understands what she needs and she applies a lot of thought to each session ensuring holly gets the most out of it. I hope we can keep the sessions going with Amy for as long as we need them.
So pleased and relieved we found the brilliant David through SENsational Tutors. He quickly identified our son’s specific needs (B is 13, with ASD), recognising that the ability is there, but there are difficulties with retention and recall. David is clearly a dedicated teacher and passionate about maths – he brings so much energy to the sessions! By working with the school, he is providing tailored lessons to consolidate B’s classroom learning, fill in gaps, revisit topics that B struggles with, and introduce or pre-teach new topics coming up in the curriculum. Our son instantly took to David’s fun, engaging, easygoing and creative approach – for example, setting maths art for homework (which also helps with B’s fine motor skills as part of his sensory integration therapy). Having dreaded school maths lessons and homework in the past, B now looks forward to his sessions with David, which are a highlight of the week! B is already growing hugely in confidence in maths and feels able to have a go, whereas he would previously panic and often give up. David has also fostered a warm teacher-student relationship where our son feels happy to say when he doesn’t understand or needs help. Having never had any experience of tutoring before, Joanna at SENsational Tutors has been supportive throughout, keeping in touch to see how things are going and offering invaluable tips and advice along the way.
Kirsten has been providing my son (aged 7 with DS) twice weekly sessions for a few months now. I can’t speak highly enough as to the difference this has made. She works along side the school to help him fill in the gaps as it were, to keep him on track. By ensuringu that the in between steps he needs to in order to gain the understanding of key principles hare supported, he’s able to keep up with the curriculum. She has a great understanding of the challenges faced by children with DS, and is able to adapt the curriculum, presenting it in a way that he can access. Her approach is multidimensional, incorporating occupational therapy, visual learning, errorless learning and uses a multitude of learning resources and techniques to help support him. He thoroughly enjoys his lessons and looks forward to seeing Kirsten and to learning, giving him a great sense of achievement and boosting his confidence which further acts to motivate and engage him in subjects he’d otherwise find difficult and shy away from.
I highly recommend SENsational tutors, the excellency of the tutors is astonishing, as they are experienced, committed and highly professional, creating the most wonderful, safe, supportive and fun learning environment that SEN children need to learn and achieve their full potential. Should your child require an exceptional SEN tutor, do not hesitate and contact SENsational tutors, you will be highly impressed.
