Our 15 year old daughter has dyslexia, and Caroline has been tutoring her for English Language and English Literature for the last 19 months in the run up to her GCSEs. She is a very skilled and experienced teacher as well as being kind and patient, and we have noticed our daughter’s confidence grow significantly as a result. Caroline taught approaches for engaging with unseen texts, as well as wrangling with an enormous amount of literature content in the GCSE syllabus, condensing thoughts about themes, characters, story structure etc into digestible chunks that could be reached for during exams. She enabled our daughter to significantly improve her writing technique, and her grades improved accordingly. Caroline always communicates promptly and thoroughly after each session so we have a good idea of exactly what they have covered. We have been very grateful for all of her help. SENsational tutors were very organised in the way they paired us up with Caroline, and contacted us from time to time to see how things were going. Their advice about how to find the help we needed, and how to navigate a state school with limited dyslexia support was all much appreciated. Skills like this will stay with our daughter for life, and the people you choose to mentor can make an enormous difference, so we are very glad that we chose Caroline.
Dee tutored my son who had been out of school for a while. She was very patient and came up with various ways to help him back into education. Her communication was excellent and she was very supportive and encouraging.
Fantastic! My son James accessed sensational tutors and worked with Alexia. James worked with Alexia for support with his Gcse English language and literature and exam. In December he was predicted grade 2-3 after working hard with the support of Alexia he achieved grade 8 Alexia was very supportive, kind and patient she took the time to get to build a professional rappour with him and always communicated with both myself and my son in his progress and lessons. Giving him the tools and confidence to go into his exams and come out with amazing results. I would highly recommend Alexia and sensational tutors
Harry started working with Debbie a few months before his GCSE’s, Harry has Developmental Language Disorder and is severely dyslexic. Harry was predicted a 4 for English Language, got a 2 in his mocks, we received his results today and after working with Debbie has made a 7! To say he is on cloud nine is an understatement. Debbie gave him the skills and confidence he needed to get him to this truly amazing achievement. Harry really enjoyed his sessions with Debbie they worked well together and it now shows to what extent! - Thank you - Harry & Mum
C’s tutor, Jess, from SENsational tutors, has consistently gone above and beyond in supporting her to be able to engage in lessons. She understands complex SEN including FASD, ASD (PDA) and ADHD which requires education to be bespoke and the learning profile to be thoroughly understood. SENsational Tutors took the time from the start to find the right tutor for us and this tutor has consistently come up with creative ways to engage and teach C, and has been incredibly supportive in a very difficult situation. Jess’ support has been outstanding; she has gone above and beyond over the last year and her SEN knowledge is excellent. Quite frankly, I don’t know how we would have managed without her unwavering commitment.
Steve has been invaluable as a tutor. My son worked with him over a long time so that he could be supported with emotional regulation alongside extra maths and English. Our son, H, was so comfortable with Steve within a couple of sessions, clearly enjoying them (at a time when he was not enjoying school). The routine of those weekly sessions became an important part of the week for H and the connection and security he felt with Steve as a tutor was integral to that. Steve is very skilled at understanding individuals and working out how to work with them. He clearly has a lot of experience of working with different types of neurodivergence/learning needs and a deep understanding of how we learn and how to apply that in a way that is engaging and kind. Thank you Steve!
I cannot speak highly enough of the Debbie from Sneational tutors who came to our family's aid during a time of utter crisis. From the moment she stepped through our door, it was evident that we were in the presence of someone truly exceptional. Her wealth of experience in working with children with special educational needs was immediately apparent, and she seamlessly adapted to our unique and challenging situation with remarkable expertise. Our child, who has complex learning difficulties, was struggling immensely, and as parents, we felt overwhelmed and helpless. However, Debbie brought not only her extensive knowledge and professional skills but also an incredible warmth and empathy that helped transform our home environment. She connected with our child on a level we had never seen before, understanding their needs, frustrations, and strengths in a way that was both insightful and compassionate. Her approach was holistic, taking into consideration not just the academic requirements but also the emotional and social aspects of our child's development. She created a tailored plan that was both challenging and achievable, and her patience and encouragement fostered a sense of confidence and motivation in our child that had been missing for so long. What truly sets her apart is her personal touch. She took the time to get to know our family, understanding the dynamics and challenges we face daily. Her empathy and genuine care extended beyond just the educational needs; she supported us as a family unit, offering invaluable advice and strategies that have had a profound impact on our overall well-being. In a time of darkness, she brought light and hope back into our lives. Her dedication, professionalism, and heartfelt approach have made an immeasurable difference. We are eternally grateful for her presence and cannot recommend her highly enough to any family in need of SEND support. She is not just a tutor but a beacon of positivity and change.
Miriam is a fantastic tutor for our daughter. She is extremely thorough in everything she does. Our daughter's progress in maths has really improved since we started using Miriam about 8 months ago and her confidence in this area has improved greatly. We could not recommend Miriam highly enough.
We were apprehensive about online tutoring for Dan as he has always struggled to learn online. His autism means he struggles to maintain focus in subjects he is not interested or confident in. He had been out of education for a year but really wanted to learn. We were able to secure SENsational Tutors using our personal budget and are so happy that we did! Anthony taught Dan GCSE maths. He invested his time to get to know Dan and build a rapport based on Dan's special interests. We were really impressed with the effort and skill he put into creating a really good relationship with Dan very quickly. Dan's confidence in Maths was very low and Anthony worked hard to build him up and we could see this improving after every session. This gave him a foundation that he then used to build up Dan's knowledge in all areas across the curriculum. Anthony was always professional and responsive with all his dealings with us and Daniel and kept us informed of what was covered, progress and planning. The real care and consideration he gave meant a lot to us and to Dan and we are genuinely glad to have been able to work with Anthony. We are so glad to have worked with Dee on Dan's English language GCSE. His autsim means he really struggles to engage and makes sense of non-literal language and he was becoming very demotivated and bored with the texts we had been using. Dee breathed new life into his learning with her enthusiasm and warmth and Dan immediately felt comfortable and supported. Dee developed his confidence and capabilities and pushed him to achieve more than he believed he could. She went above and beyond to support him, including during her holiday. She is professional and responsive and her energy and enthusiasm is contagious! We are so glad that Dan got the benefit of her teaching.
Phil has been tutoring my son for over a year and Will looks forward to his session every week. Phil has been calm, responsive and adaptive to Will’s needs both socially and academically. He has understood what Will needs from the get-go and Will now trusts him and has grown in confidence. Phil not only understands the different needs of SEN pupils but is also a knowledgable and excellent business studies tutor. It has been great to witness-thanks Phil!
I have been using SEN Tutors for nearly over 4 months now and they have been so professional and smooth sailing to work along side. They picked out an amazing tutor named Jenna who is attending to my daughters needs in both Maths and English. Jenna is patient , caring and has fun ways of making learning more enjoyable and exciting. My daughter has only done better in school since Jenna came on board and has a new found enthusiasm for learning and confidence in the class. I would recommend SEN tutors for their smooth , swift communication and easy booking procedure, I would recommend Jenna as a tutor who is able to bring out and unlock your child's strengths. IKRAM
My daughter has always struggled with maths. SENsational Tutors was able to provide a tutor with highly relevant skills and experience. It was easy for us to get the tutoring set up. Janice was excellent with my daughter. She was able to analyse what her difficulties were and teach her in a way that made sense to her.
Since contacting Lucy through SENsational tutors 6 months ago she has been nothing but professional and goes the extra mile to help with ideas and support for both me as a parent and for my daughter with complex needs and ASD. Lucy has a calm and enthusiastic approach which has brought the best out in my daughter and she is making great progress. I cannot recommend Lucy highly enough and SENsational tutors Joanna was very approachable and knowledgeable when I was looking for a tutor and she was key in matching Lucy with my daughter.
Lovely, kind, patient tutor. Very flexible with his time too.
My son Theodore has been working with Katie for about six months and I can see the improvement already. Before working with Katie, my son was almost a year behind in his English and maths and he was becoming more and more reluctant to do any work after school. Katie has been fantastic and has found a way for my son to fully engage with her for a whole hour. During their sessions, I see them laughing and playing fun learning games which has really helped with his progress at school.
Shona has been tutoring my son in maths, for the last 2 months. He has been out of mainstream education for quite a while and 1-1 tutoring is part of his return to education plan. He is very academically able, previously attending a grammar school, however his autism, ADHD and PDA presented a lot of challenges that were not as well supported as he needed in school. On paper Shona looked to be a good fit for my son with her extensive experience teaching young people with additional needs. Shona initially met with my son to see how they would get along and if they could work well together, this is exactly the approach needed as my son will totally disengage if he dislikes a teacher. My son would be sitting his GCSEs under normal circumstances and so the initial session was an assessment of his capabilities with a view to him working towards functional skills level 2 in maths. As sessions have been going so well and he has gained his confidence back, following completion of some practise papers, he is now working towards Maths and English GCSEs. Shona is very patient, knowledgeable and really listens to my son, she also ensures that there are regular breaks during the sessions, which helps with focus, attention and engagement and I often hear them chatting away during breaks, which is lovely. During sessions, If my son is struggling, they will look at different ways to help his understanding and work through problems together. We would highly recommend Shona and SENsational tutors.
This company was recommended to me by a friend who has a daughter with ADHD. Mine has processing issues and Giselle has been a game changer. A huge increase in confidence in her own abilities, we had another, really good English tutor before Giselle, but without the specific SEN knowledge, and that is what has made a huge positive difference, both in how my daughter now sees herself and in her academic marks. She knew she was clever, but it was never reflected in her results, now she is learning ways to work with her brain to get the results she wants. Highly recommend. Definitely not cheap, but you are paying for their very specific areas of expertise and honestly worth every penny. Even after one session my daughter was impressed.
We had a very poor experience with this firm. They have onerous and disjointed transaction processes that we suffered from and ended up not getting the first session. They make you a) register on the web b) agree to a long and onerous email before they will send you an invoice. We got a + b late from the company and completed them but then the invoice didn’t come. Despite agreeing to start to tutor our son at 9am today they have now said they can’t. It’s so poor we have invested so much time in this firm. Fundamentally they have onerous terms and conditions and disjointed processes looking to button parents down. The cancellation terms are not balanced. Parents are held to 14 days cancellation whilst the tutor can cancel with 24 hours notice. We feel like we have been held hostage and then let down. This is the Uk way today but it has to change. We entered into an agreement that they have fallen down on because they can’t get their dysfunctional processes to operate. It seems like a very officious company, for us it is an avoid. It is in all regards Heath Robinson.
When we needed extra maths tuition for my autistic son we googled around and found Iain on the sensational tutors site. Over the past 12 months Iain has been dependable and consistent with my son. Couldn’t have been any better really. Thanks Iain!
SENsational tutors have been instrumental in helping us find a tutor for our son. Our son is 6 years old and has been diagnosed with autism. From our experience so far, we would say that they have found us an amazing tutor. They have made the process of enrolling quite smooth and also send useful SEN news and articles regularly. Zoe, our son’s tutor, has been tutoring him for at least 6 months. Before the first session, Zoe called us to understand fully about our son’s needs. She listened carefully to his likes, dislikes and how he works. She then tailored the sessions to incorporate his favourite TV shows, book characters such as Paw Patrol, Paddington and even our recent visit to Edinburgh. Zoe is responsive to feedback from our son’s school, which includes focusing on certain areas such as sentence formation. She has established a routine that allows our son to enjoy each session to such an extent, that he eagerly looks forward for the next one. Zoe is very patient in her approach and encourages him to be his best. We have definitely seen an improvement in his abilities. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to use Zoe’s services.
