Another stunning menu from the @thecookaway team and created by #chefnidhiverma. The tandoori chicken was succulent and I will be making again. The real recelation was the rice - I normally cook rice using the absorption method, cooking the soaked basmati in a pot of boiling salted water, draining and cooling produced the most perfect rice. Each grain distinct and perfumed with a mix of spices and lemon juice, delicious. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to expand their cooking skills to different cuisines. Instruction cards are clear, the timelines for prepping excellent with extras via QR code and a spotify playlist.
I received a Cookaway voucher as a gift. We chose a Greek recipe. The ingredients arrived at the allotted time - the packing was impressive. The end product Chicken Souvlaki was tasty and plentiful for 3 people. However we were surprised to discover literally everything had to be made from scratch ie pitta bread, a small bag of flour, baking powder etc. Therefore making the complete menu proved to be really much more time consuming than expected even by an experienced cook! Would I recommend - I’m not sure I’m afraid.
The recipe was very unusual. As a Pakistani, I was surprised about boiling the meat to get stock (without bone) and the water quantity for the rice was inaccurate. I felt like the steps were counter intuitive and as a result the meal was not enjoyable. The ingredients were not a problem.
Delivery was on 24th but didn’t arrive until 6pm as we were going out so I couldn’t prep that day. All easy to do and good instructions, the addition of orange zest in sausage roll didn’t go down well. Overall nice but nothing you couldn’t get in supermarket for half the price.
Packaging and delivery very good. Recipe instructions are detailed. Followed the recipes but overall the food was too bland. The Char Kway Teow tasted more like a Pad Thai. BBQ chicken wings were good. Not tried the katsu curry yet.
I opted for a beef wellington and was pleased with the quality generally. The problem COULD have been that I never received it! The courier was on time BUT and despite a clear instruction to leave it in the rear porch, it was left inside my neighbour's garage, and he was about to set-off to see family, lock the garage .... So I was lucky that he spotted the box and brought it round!
This was so easy to make, clear instructions and great ingredients, everyone was impressed and it's the best Beef Wellington I've ever made, thank you!
I made Ping's Nyonya Laksa. Big fan of Ping from her masterchef days - so thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to cook something from her! Cookaway have a great idea, very helpful, efficient, and quick customer service - and they were helpful at getting me halal meat which I wanted for this recipe! Only way the recipe could have been better is if there was more meat - but we just added more. Good fun, great gift to have received.
I really liked the Greek meze box as a Boxing Day treat for my family gathering. The quantities were generous and the balance of fish, meat and vegetarian options suited my guests perfectly. The recipe cards and planning guide worked very well and could easily be followed by my 12 year old grandson who cooked the prawns to perfection.
I ordered the Beef Wellington Experience and it was superb! Packaging, instructions and ingredients were all high quality. But the star of the meal was the beef, cooked to medium rare it was beautifully tasty, tender and delicious. My only criticism was that the pastry wasn’t fully baked at 170C fan for 30 mins. Maybe 180C would have been better. However it look great and went down a treat with my guests.
Well made pack with everything provided, just had to cook it, according to the instructions, which were easy to follow. Really tasty
Cookaway were fantastic. From the order right through to preparing the meals were 1st class. The only fly in the ointment was the delivery company (DPD). They delivered to a completely incorrect street & address!
Decided to take a break from Turkey this Christmas, had Beef Wellington, really easy to follow instructions and tasted delicious. We’ve ordered the Chateaubriand for New Year!
Ordered the Lamb Kleftiko for a gift. Nice but for the price could have gone to a Greek restaurant and had better for less money and no effort. I was stuck for ideas for a gift so I thought I would be clever buying this, so I have to take some responsibility there. Its just the mark up on ingredients leaves you feeling a bit ripped off. But if you really love cooking then I guess you would get more out of it, but then you could just go and buy a Greek cookbook, buy the ingredients yourself and still have money left over. MY REPLY - I agree, thats why I said if someone loves cooking they will get more out of it. But no more than if they just did it themselves from a cookbook. Might a well have bought Irini Tzortzoglou's cook book for a gift. Also the photos on your website of the Lamb Kleftico are misleading. They look like thick bits of meat, what I received were 2 x 1 to 1.5 inch lamb steaks.
Delicious food but the recipe (beef wellington) was a bit too complex for me!

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Gifted a Cookaway meal and we were impressed with the choice of dishes. Easy to follow instructions resulted a delicious Pastitsada Kerkyras (Traditional Corfu Chicken). Sounds daft but one of the things I liked was minimal packaging. So, full marks to CookAway.
The Malaysian Night Market was disappointing. The flavours were bland and each dish similar.
Delivery came on time. Ingredients were of top quality and fresh. The venison was lovely and the jus fantastic. In fact it was a great experience.
Persuaded by the description of top-notch ingredients, especially the 'Hero Ingredient' of Organic Nc'nean single malt, I was willing to accept the clearly inflated cost. Imagine my surprise when the Hero ingredient arrived as a miniature of Famous Grouse blended scotch. Not exactly what had been promised. I might have given a slightly higher score, as the meat was very good, but a customer service response of 'occasionally we have to substitute for an equivalent product' rather upset me. Blended scotch equivalent to single malt? Seriously? If you are going to charge a hefty margin for premium products, you simply must deliver premium, not lower quality substitutes. I won't be ordering again, and can't recommend others to do so either.
