Today I tried to access one of my files from my "Instant Vault" but found out that it's a total scam! I need to wait for an email to download a file that is less than 1MB in size? And getting this email seems to be hours or even days away... I signed up for Zoolz and paid for a Lifetime plan to easily access all my photos using my Android-phone. Luckily enough though, most of my photos are under 8MB (16MP) since I use JPEG-files as previews for my RAW-files, which means that I still get thumbnails for most photos. As a lifetime plan user, I can't recommend this service to anyone. Even as an amateur photographer, whom wants to backup my photos, Zoolz is just too limited. Another problem I faced a few times, is the limit to upload folders containing more than 1000 files using the web interface, which I easily do if I shoot more than 500 pictures in a day... Zoolz started out as a great service, but now we are just left in the cold.
I'm yet another lifetime user that wasted money on this terrible product. It hasn't backed up my data in 55 days and always just says "internet connection issue..". My internet is rock solid so this is a problem on their end. No support either. Stay away from the low cost lifetime price scams you see offered on some sites, it's a bait and switch.
Overall before this year (2020) I would've given Zoolz a four star rating as a Lifetime customer since it worked fine in my lite usage scenario. Now the most I can give them is one and a half stars. If I were a Lifetime customer with a heavier usage scenario I doubt I'd give them more than half a star. So I compromised on one star. Situation - 2016-09 purchased 500GB Lifetime Plan - 2018-12 upgraded with the purchase of 1.5TB Lifetime Plan - Fairly lite user of the cold storage ~ once/day - Use about 360GB of the 1.5TB of cold storage - Rarely if ever use the Instant Vault storage Experience - Until this year I rarely had an issue with Zoolz itself. Most "issues" could be traced to Internet or PC problems. - For my lite usage backup speeds were fine. What's Changed - Zoolz has downgraded the service for Lifetime Plan customers. - According to Zoolz tech support "All lifetime users share the same backup bandwidth channel which may sometimes results in backup malfunctions and interruptions..." - This change explains the slowdowns and interrupts I've seen in archiving my files. While it's annoying that archives take longer it's not a large problem for my use case. - Unfortunately Zoolz appears to see no problem with Lifetime customers being unable to perform backups for days at a time. Even with my lite usage I've experienced two instances this Summer where the archive process was unable to even connect to the servers for approximately two days each time. Note these were not cases where the backup process constantly dropped the connection to the server and then reconnected. These were instances where the process could NEVER connect to the server. This problem is not that easy to just shrug off even in my lite use case. - Zoolz technical support apparently no longer answers follow-up questions from Lifetime customers. They still answer initial questions, but it appears their standard response will be your problems are caused by the shared bandwidth channel and you need to pay for a maintenance contract on the "Lifetime" plan you purchased. - A secondary problem is that Zoolz has not modified their backup software to indicate when problems a Lifetime user is experiencing are caused by this new limitation. Rather Zoolz just uses the standard message "Connection lost. Please check your internet connection." This leaves the user unnecessarily pursuing useless troubleshooting steps when the problem is due to the shared bandwidth channel.
Lifetime subscriptions doesn't not include maintenance. what? why call it lifetime then? after a year you will receive and nice notice on your dashboard: "Your Maintenance Plan Has Expired!" You have to wait couple days just to download your files. Please stay away.
UPDATE: Zoolz is LYING in their comment to my post. I never had a "premium" plan that ran out. I paid a lot of money for the lifetime plan, and at some point they decided to DOWNGRADE the plan, not stick to the agreement, and bully users to pay them more money, even though they promised lifetime service. Untrustworthy in every way imaginable: - very buggy software, both in terms of just the interface and it has lost data of mine. It's just not there when I relied on it being there - I bought a lifetime plan, but they're actually not letting me use essential features (needed just to re-install zoolz after formatting the harddrive) without upgrading and paying them more (monthly!) money - guess what, support isn't included in the PAID lifetime plan either - you have to upgrade for that. Now I don't know if it's bugs or their deceiving pricing policy that's keeping me from using the service. Run for your life.
As everyone has mentioned here, this is a scam and I fell for it. "Your Maintenance Plan Has Expired!" in my case means my app keeps crapping out and I can't update it. Shameful practice, reported to BBB but I doubt it will do any good. Keep the reviews coming it's the only way to alert others.
Back in February of this year they decided to no longer honor the lifetime accounts. The following email was sent to lifetime account holders: "Hello Due to the high demand for premium services, we are no longer offering basic plans to any of our customers. This means we will be slightly increasing prices for our subscribers. How will this affect you? As a lifetime account holder you will not be forced to pay any additional costs, however, without upgrading your plan you may experience some issues using your account when we cease to support our basic plans of as February 1st, 2020." The company is a sham. They expect you to pay for maintenance on a LIFETIME account purchase. LIFETIME was supposed to be a single purchase without additional fees. It's not like buying a car where you expect to have additional cost of ownership. Update: After the reply from Zoolz about my account being "available" " Final Notice: Your data will be deleted in 5 days To our home users: We understand what a huge inconvenience and disappointment our previous announcement was, regarding the closure of all Home plans from Zoolz. We have made a continuous effort since our first announcement, to help all our Home users restore their data, or migrate to our heavily discounted business plan. We also extended the deadline for users to restore their data by six weeks. However we must give this final notice to inform users that they have five [5] days left to restore any outstanding data they still have on our servers, before it is permanently deleted on 22nd of November. Great tool for automated backup of software, which also backs up network drives. Support quick to reply and with resolutions. Interface for accessing the backup data is awesome, and allows sharing with others on an individual file basis, and restores are quick too, via downloads. I've been using it for over a year now.
Have a lifetime 1+1GB contract for one PC and experienced difficulties when my hard drive failed and I could not access my data (they do not let you use another PC to download your files). I then had a longwinded process of getting my old PC back up and running before Zoolz allowed me to restore files in small chunks. Having completed this process over 4 days I now want to transfer my single PC licence to a new PC and there is no obvious (probably deliberate) way to do this. Be careful before you take out a service from this company as they appear to be reneging on their lifetime storage agreement.
Subscription info was in various locations making it hard to arrive at a clear decision but having an account manager providing support was a great help.
Easy app to download and use. I bought 100 GB for one year and this will help keep all my data safe in one location and give me the easy access I need to use it.
Do not trust Zoolz. They are cheaters and liars. They cheated me out of my money and broke contractual agreement: I bought 2TB lifetime storage package (1TB hot and 1TB cold storage). Service started normal with normal access and sharing features. After some time they moved ALL of my files into what they call "Vault" and now it takes several days to get any file out of there -- How is that a "hot storage"? -- I ask you. Plus they took away sharing option altogether. I sent a message to Zoolz support to get access to my files ASAP, but have not heard from them in a few days. I think it may be time to start thinking about class action against this deceitful company to stop their bad practices and seek to compensate all the customers who where deceived on the "lifetime" deal. What a disaster! I wish somebody warned me about these scoundrels! I am leaving my comment here in hopes that other people can be forewarned. I saw other users "flipped" from 1 star rating into "positive rating" after they got their files for instant access. My question to those users who "changed their mind" about Zoolz: how can you betray your fellow consumer and now give Zoolz more than 1 star !!!? - or do you not care about other people who experience the same grief now !!!?
I now have Zoolz installed on two computers (under two different accounts) and couldn't be happier. My second purchase accidentally went through as an upgrade and it took a few days to get it sorted out, but Zoolz's customer support was excellent in making it all work.
Extremely fast response upon our call. Precise explanation and guidance, so that we were through set-up in minutes. We had an offer and got 5 TB cold storage space for a ridiculous price that simply needed to be taken. :) As for software - we have used Zoolz for a couple of years already on my main computer and I actually forgot that we had it ... :D It simply works around the clock and doesn't bother or mess with the work I do otherwise on my computer. I have never before had another cloud storage solution that would be so simple to use and at the same time wouldn't interferre with my work. (Being a computer software programmer for the last 34 years actually says a lot about the last statement...) I am very satisfied with Zoolz and can only recommend it!
Run from this company as fast you can. Had 2 TB life plan. Their tool didn't work anymore. Requested support multiple times and never got help. After 3 months i received the message they'd delete my account due to inactivity (because their tool is complete crap). Then when i asked them again the only response i got was that i could pay a monthly or yearly fee to be able to get support. This site is a complete scam. Don't trust them for more than 5$
the lifetime subscription has been cancelled. I have 15 days do download my files before they get deleted. However I can't do that, because they removed the download button and their app is not working.
Edit 2: After the original review I was contacted by the Zoolz Client support and my issue was fixed. I appreciate and salute this good client support from Zoolz. But this support should've been provided during the first contact, not after a negative review on trust pilot. But this time, Zoolz's client support fixed my issue quickly and with no issues, I see that as act of good faith so I will trust Zoolz and I've changed my review's classification as a reflection of that. I hope Zoolz continues to show quality support and services. Original Review: As it happened to many people, I've subscribed to a life time of 500Gb of Instant Vault and 500Gb of Cold Backup Storage. No yearly/regular subscriptions or plans were mentioned, it was a life time deal. For about a year everything ran smoothly, I could backup my data on the cloud and share if I needed. It was perfect. In less than an year, with no warning, I've received an email notifying that my 'Maintenance Plan' was expired and I would need to subscribe to a regular plan to be be able to have access to the previous features again. Features that made part of my life time contract. I was unable to share my data/files anymore, which was one of the reasons I've paid for this service. To get the service that it was meant to be life time I now have to pay for a subscription. So my life time service is now completely useless. This was a complete breach of contract. They decided to change their policy, and with no warning changed the contract conditions without informing or discussing it with their clients. It was very so deceitful, dishonest and unreliable behaviour. I will never be able to trust this 'company again'. I cannot express how disappointed I am with zoolz. EDIT1: When I've contact the support team, what they said was since the 'Maintenance Service' (that was not mentioned when I bought the life time account) has expired, zoolz don't provide any costumer support until the client subscribes to this service. After the client subscribes/buys the service they will provide some assistance to fix the issue. Pretty much they're bribing and pressing the client into buying this service. Their service is so dodgy and insidious.
I bought "Lifetime of 1TB Instant Vault and 1TB of Cold Backup Storage" and I was very satisfied with this cloud so far. As other reviewers told, few days ago, after a couple of years, without any warning they stopped the Vault Service and migrated it to Cold Backup Storage. To get it back is it was they demanding extra payments to purchased a maintenance service. Now to download some files you need to wait at minimum one day, and this is almost useless for me. When I asked for information from customer service, they didn't even want to answer me, because I should have purchased the maintenance service. So if you have any problems, you cannot ask them if you don't pay an extra fee. This is very incorrect behavior, because the terms of a contract cannot be changed. So, my suggestion is don't buy this service!
In short - stay away from this company, you would not be able to use what you bought for the money you paid - they will cut service after you purchase it, demand more money and refuse your requests for refund. I bought from them "Lifetime of 1TB Instant Vault and 1TB of Cold Backup Storage" and as other reviewers mentioned, they took away Vault and migrated it to Cold Backup Storage. To get it back is it was they demanding extra payments. At the time of the purchase this is what was promised: 1)Backup 1TB of Instant Vault data & 1TB of Cold Backup data for life, w/ no additional costs. 2)Length of access: lifetime 3)Updates included After lengthy discussions with support they temporary restored my Vault and mentioned the following: “Please note that since you have not subscribed to the maintenance plan, these files might be transferred to Cold Storage at any time in the future, which is why we advise our lifetime users to subscribe to the maintenance plan so that their files are always in Instant Vault when needed. We cannot know when this might happen as this is performed by an automated service on all the accounts without subscription to the maintenance plan”. Another problem is that extra money are demanded for the future updates - just check out the following: However, the backup and restore technology that revolves around the lifetime accounts with the previous basic plan will be changed as follows: 1. Lifetime subscribers with basic support plan will be sharing the same upload and download channels. This may leed to a noticeable slowness in the backup and the restore process. This may also cause interruptions of the backup and the restore, depending on the load on the said shared channels. 2. Lifetime subscribers with a basic support plan will not be eligible for further Zoolz updates to meet the new OS updates (Both Windows and macOS). This may be leading to software under-performing when new OS updates are installed. 3. The Vault feature will be restructured for Zoolz lifetime subscribers with a basic support plan. The idle files under the Vault folder will get automatically migrated to the Cold Storage servers. This means no more share or instant download for those files even while they are listed under the Vault folder. 4. No more technical support. Obviously, none of this changes were mentioned at the time of the purchase. I will be reporting them to ombudsman and fire legal action again them. It is not big money I paid, but they behave like a criminals.
