They sold me a lifetime cloud storage subscription and now suddenly tell us that they are ending the Zoolz Home service and you only have 14 days to retrieve your files. How is that lifetime!?

My family bought 3 lifetime subscriptions a little over a year ago and now they are canceling the service with no refunds and only giving 15 days to recover their files through a service that no longer works. We have already contacted Zoolz and they replied with a lot of lies, as they always reply with the same message here. They have advertised and sold their lifetime offers on many sites over the past few years, but it was clearly a scam because now they are just renaming all services to "business" and if you want to keep your files you have to pay monthly. They will only refund a tiny percentage of their customers, Zoolz and its owners simply stole the money from all the other customers. Never buy anything that has to do with Zoolz, BigMIND, or the people who own them. This is no mere disservice, they are dishonest.

During my time using zoolz as a lifetime account holder, often the scheduled backup wouldn't run and I would have to periodically check and force it to run off-schedule. Backup and restore was often a bit slow. I can understand lifetime meaning lifetime of the service (not the users lifetime) although their responses to other users indicate that lifetime did indeed mean lifetime of the user (see below). While frustrating that my lifetime account is being deleted unless I subscribe to a monthly plan, what angers me most is that they seem to be doing everything they can to force users to sub if they want to get their data. First, they removed the download button from their website, however up until 10/6/2020 you could still click on a file or drag the file to a folder on your pc and download it from the website. This has now been disabled and the only option to get your files is through their app that will sit for days at 0% because all home and lifetime users share the same bandwidth. What makes this even worse is they are only giving users until 10/15/2020 to get any data they want before it's all deleted. I am almost tempted to sub for a month to get my files followed by an immediate chargeback from my credit card. I will be looking into a class action suit against them. Check out their response to this user's review just before their announcement of home account cancellation: Karl Wagner 6 reviews 1 star: Bad Sep 9, 2020 Forcing lifetime accounts to pay Screw them! I paid a lifetime account and now they force those users to pay. Bye zoolz! Reply from Zoolz Sep 13, 2020 Hi Karl, You are not obliged to pay anything and your service will continue to be accessible and working for life. Best regards, Zoolz Team *Update - More shenanigans!* So I've been watching task and resource manager closely because zoolz restore kept freezing on me. I upped the priority to stop it from hanging and found that If your restore is going to take longer than 12 hours to start, then you won't get your files. Why? because zoolz restore will log you out and not notify you. While restore is running and getting the files ready, it should be using about 3k send and receive B/sec in bandwidth. When it drops to 100-200 B/sec, restore has logged you out and you must abort your restore and log back in.

The "Lifetime Plan" for me was about 18 months. I wrote to Zoolz to complain (also to the site that promoted the plan and also to a featured Zoolz client in the United States). This morning I received an apology e-mail (perhaps all Lifetime clients did) that offers "two free years of business." While my experience is that "lifetime" rarely means exactly that--I definitely expect it to mean an extended period of time. Having received a better explanation, apology, and the offer--I am no longer upset. Although, I certainly don't expect everyone to feel that way. (I am sure the complaints on this site were duly noted.)

Zoolz is a big scam. A dishonest company. Stay away. They are here to rip you off. They are a bunch of thieves. In the name of lifetime storage they are about to complete their planned exploitation of a huge number of people. First they discontinued their instant downloading options, then they have prohibited downloading large file by introducing various hurdles then at last they are discontinuing the service altogether. They have given 2 weeks time to download which will be never possible for anybody given not only the fact that their usual download options were never really stress free but also they have currently disabled download button. Huh! what a joke. They are not begging for money they are keeping our files as hostages and asking for ransom. This is absolutely unethical and unlawful. They can not hold their customer's data like this and disallow to even download, forget about violation of lifetime terms. They must be sued!

My restore has been running now for 6 days and it’s still calculating. How on earth is 14 days notice suitable and sufficient!! Watch out for the standard response below and yes I did email the restore zoolz team email 6 days ago. Words fail me. Please add me to any class action.

I bought the service for lifetime. But now this service is no longer offered and I would have to switch to the business version, which costs per year. They offer a discount of 90%.Basically this is not a bad offer but I don't want to buy services from a company that suddenly terminates the service. And only gives the customer a relatively short time to decide how to proceed.

Realmente poca seriedad.

Took my money for a lifetime product and closed the service after 1½ years. This is a scam company, and I will give them negative reviews always.

Like others, I purchased a Lifetime subscription, only to find that Zoozl feel that is it perfectly acceptable to terminate the service without offering any refund whatsoever to those who purchased just 2 years ago. Checking their online terms, I found this extract: - Note point (ii). It would be reasonable to conclude that they anticipated they planned ahead of time to shut the Home service down and keep our money. Shame on them. Term Term and Termination. These Terms and your license to the Zoolz Products will commence at the time and on the day you install, access, or use Zoolz Products, whichever is earlier. These Terms, your license and your subscription to the Zoolz Products will automatically terminate or expire upon the earlier of (i) non-renewal, cancellation, or expiration of your subscription or your failure to pay invoices when due, (ii) Zoolz discontinuance of the Zoolz Products, or (iii) failure to comply with these Terms

Well Done Zoolz. You do it again to rip off your customers. I bought a lifetime plan of 1TB Instant Vault and 1TB of Cold Backup Storage on Mar 04, 2019. Things are changed during 2020. First thing I notice is my Vault Storage. I can upload and download data right away as they promised in the beginning. But during 2020 Zoolz start to archive old files in the Vault Storage and I can not download them anytime. I have to wait several hours so that I can download it. That means my Vault Storage is just like normal Cold Storage. Yes, Zoolz never tells me the new policy and it violates my lifetime plan. As soon as I complain this in TrustPilot, Zoolz contact me and recover my Vault Storage (I thought they are still reliable this time). Second, Zoolz contacted users and encouraged them switch to monthly plan. They will not reply your questions if you do not pay. Yes, they want you to pay first so that they can reply your question even it is their fault. Remember Zoolz changed my Vault Storage plan secretly? When I email them and Zoolz said they can not answer my questions because I did not pay. Hello? IT IS ZOOLZ WHO VIOLATES THE SERVICE AGREEMENT AND YOU WANT ME TO PAY JUST TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON ? I am not surprised with closing HOME USER products this time. Zool is not honest and try to make things complicated so that people will give up. I am lucky to have other backups so that I do not have to download everything within 15 days. Zoolz is trying to rip people off since early 2020. Limit your plan first. Then Encourage you to pay to get full service. And now, closing all Home user services. If you are running a business and want to do a disaster recovery practice, Zoolz is the disaster and please try to backup your files with other cloud services.

Does someone want to sue this company for false advertising? They just discontinued the 'Home' version, which, so coincidentally, includes the only 'lifelong' plan they had, which was paid upfront. A few years ago I bought this 'lifelong' plan from Zoolz. Even at the time I thought it was fishy, how can they offer 'lifelong' plans? Well simple, by lying. They offered a four year or so plan. The servers are super slow but it was OK considering it was 'lifelong' I put up with it, it was an OK buy. So I didn't complain. I was shocked when they discontinued the maintenance on them without writing that they'd stop the maintenance. But I shrugged it off after my annoyance. Now, they discontinued it altogether. My initial intuition was right. This is fishy, this is a scam, and someone could probably sue them for false advertising. There was never a 'lifelong' plan. They offer a '90% off' subscription for the business users now, because of this. I bet this is also a lie and a scam. It will be 90% off...for what... half a year subscription or so? So I paid for 'lifelong', in exchange I pay an additional amount for a finite subscription, that, once renews, kicks back to its full price? They just want new customers, and want to recycle the ones that already paid. They'll do it again. No thanks. No more scams. This is the end. PS: I think their half-hearted response, which they copy and paste to all customers here complaining, shows you exactly the problem. You pay for 'lifelong' and they end your 'Home' (rebranded from 'lifelong') plan, and if you did this 30 days ago, you get a full refund. If you paid for a 'lifelong' plan less than a year ago, you get a partial refund. So, what about the ones who bought a 'lifelong' plan when you were offering it? 3 years ago? Oh yeah, just forget them. 3 years counts as a lifetime so they don't get refunds.

I have to agree with all of the recent negative reviews here. I signed up to what was then advertised as a lifetime subscription for a one-off fee with the intention of using Zoolz as a "disaster recovery" data backup for all of my personal files. I received a "no-reply" email stating that this service was being cancelled, to say I was surprised would be an understatement! I'm not 100% sure this is actually legal!? Thankfully I don't believe there is anything that I need to restore that I don't have a local copy of (I may regret saying that in a couple of weeks), but I do feel ripped off. You can't sell a "lifetime service" just to cancel it a couple of years later, it's basically lying to your customers. This is not a company I will continue to use, who's to say they won't pull the same trick again in the future and affectively hold all of your data to ransom!

Zoolz ripping off customers. I purchased "lifetime" storage from Zoolz. Not only they cancelled the plan, but they restricted download speeds, and limited time to get my files off their servers to only 15 days, which makes it nearly impossible. Customer service is not helping at all and they refused to refund my money. Every person who got ripped off by Zoolz, go to FTC dot GOV to file an official complaint. If enough of us file it, they will have to refund our money. I contacted their special support email pleading to increase the limit of daily downloads and refund my money. I purchased Lifetime storage. Their reply was very nice they said they can’t help me on either issue. Since I got it a little over 14 months ago - no refund. And 1Gb is the highest limit because “you can imagine the traffic we are getting now”. Stay away from this company. They will rip you off later!

GF Eanes 06 October 2020, 04:02

So I received an email saying that the "lifetime" product I bought from you won´t exist anymore, and to repair this you are going to offer me a discount to buy another product? This is at least disrespectful.

image
Serban Stokker 06 October 2020, 02:14

Nevermind the fact that I paid for a lifetime subscription, and they cancelled it as they pleased. The worst part is that I can't even restore my files. The "Restore" is supposed to start after "3-12 hours", but it's been 24 hours and it's still not started (let alone advance beyond 0%...). How the F are we supposed to retrieve our data within the 2 weeks deadline before it's deleted?!

image
Faraday 06 October 2020, 02:11

One start is too much for this scam! Beware that they will cancel your lifetime! subscription without money back guarantee and with only two weeks notice that you should retrieve your data from their servers. They cheated on so many people, took their money and now they will get away with this. Edit response to Zoolz: Really? How kind of you. And what about people who have payed more than a year ago? You deserve to go bankrupt because of this and your customers will punish you dearly!

This company is a joke. I purchased the lifetime service(2 years ago), which according to Zoolz means obviously 2 years and now they are closing this service. They are not closing the company, just demanding more money from their clients to move them into monthly fees. This is absolutely unethical and unprofessional. Obviously they didn't made a simple arithmetics when they offered this service, so can then anyone could count on them for reliable backup plan. Never use this "Mickey Mouse" company.
