If I could give Phoenix Health 10 stars I would! I travelled over from Ireland to Prof Kerrigan to get a gastric sleeve done. It was the best decision I ever made to go with Phoenix Health. When the process started, Dr Henegan and Gillian Galway were my point of contact. They were ever so helpful. Once my surgery date was set it was smooth sailing from there. I had a surgery date set for a month after my first consultation. The Alexandra BMI Hospital in Manchester were excellent. The staff were lovely. The nurses couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful. I was very anxious about the anaesthetic and surgery but both the anaesthesia team and Prof Kerrigan were brilliant, they completely calmed my nerves. Everything went great, and I’m so glad I chose Prof Kerrigan as my surgeon. He has an incredible bedside manner, gives each patient so much time, you don’t feel like just another case number to him. When I was anxious before surgery he took the time to talk to me about things I liked etc which really calmed me down. I would recommend Prof Kerrigan and his team to anyone looking to get Bariatric surgery done.
The whole experience has been excellent throughout and I am especially impressed with the post operative support and follow up that I have received.
My bariatric surgery (a sleeve) with Phoenix Health was a great success and the best money I have ever spent on myself!! I have lost over 5 stone so far and feel better in and about myself with lots more energy. This is an exceptional team. From the time I enquired I received help, support and kindness. The office staff were brilliant, responsive to questions and any anxiety; informative at every step. The surgeon, Mr. Sidiqui was a joy, everything you would want from a very competent and experienced surgeon; five small scars, 2 almost vanished. The aftercare support is first class, follow up appointments with the surgeon, personal appointments with Gillian the Dietitian in my case, group support again with Gillian on varied topics which, if you attend are a great encouragement. Best of all I can contact them whenever I need advice. I can't thank them enough but will try. THANK YOU ALL.
My journey with Phoenix Health has been amazing, I did a lot of research and found Professor David Kerrigan. Booking my consultation was the scariest part, but the lovely Barbara answered all my questions and put my worries at rest, as soon as I met Professor Kerrigan I knew I was in safe hands and I wanted him to do my surgery, not once did he make me feel fat or ashamed. I arrived for my surgery and met a lovey nurse called Sandra who made my recovery and hospital stay a very present one. She took time to care for me and nothing was to much, Having our own nurse made all the difference. I felt very safe knowing there was a nurse just feet away. Sandra took time to sit and explain things to me before and after surgery, such a lovely caring lady who made my stay the best it could be. She even had a chat with my Mum while I was in surgery to help put her mind at rest as she was very worried. Sandra you are a beautiful lady inside and out. Thank you. This first night after my surgery the night nurse sat outside our rooms again caring for us and making me feel I was in safe hands. I’m so glad I chose Phoenix Health for my surgery. I can’t fault them at all. Everyone has been lovely. The two dieticians explained everything we need to know and they are on the phone anytime we need advice, again never making me feel ashamed for being overweight. Research is hard to find the right surgeon and I don’t think I’d of done this if I hadn’t if found Professor Kerrigan. My wounds are very neat so I’m sure my scars will be barely seen once healed and I’ve had hardly any surgery or wind pains, I put this down to having a fantastic surgeon. A big huge thank you to Professor David Kerrigan and your fabulous team for given me my life and confidence back. Wendy xx
Why oh why did I wait so long? Like so many other people who have battled with their weight for years, tried every diet on the planet, lost weight, piled it back on again, lost some more, put even more back on again, etc etc, finally, this year was MY time! I started with a couple of consultations with Prof and his team. They were amazing. Right from the get go, from my initial chat with the lovely Barb I knew I was in good hands. I knew of Prof and how well renowned he was in this field of medicine. As soon as I met him I was convinced. First and foremost he listened to me without judging me! This was huge for me. For years I've spoken to G.P.'s at my local practice who have looked me up and down and basically told me to go home, move more and eat less. Prof explained the procedure, the risks, the benefits, and what it could mean to me in terms improving my overall health going forward. He was also very open with me that it wouldn't be a walk in the park. I would have to work hard and I could expect a few bumps in the road adjusting to a whole new way of eating. It was a no-brainer. I paid for my surgery and immediately began my two week pre op diet to shrink my liver. That was 7 months ago. 800 calories a day for two weeks? How will I survive on that I thought? It was so much easier than I could have possibly imagined, and before I knew it, it was the day of my op - a gastric bypass. Barb was at my bedside before I'd even unpacked my overnight bag, Prof and his surgical team came to see me and the next thing I knew I was back in my room recovering and beginning the rest of my life. Fast forward to the present day - October 2017, I've lost 6 stone (which equates to 67% of my excess weight), I've dropped 6 dress sizes, I've come off some of my blood pressure medication and I feel amazing. I've got my self esteem back, I am so much more confident. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been easy. Just as Prof predicted there have been plenty of ups and downs along the way but I have stayed committed to my new way of life and I love it. I can eat anything I want, I just eat a fraction of what I used to. I still have a great social life, I can go out and enjoy a drink and a meal with friends. This is the best thing I've ever done and genuinely wish I'd done it sooner, but for a whole multitude of reasons and excuses I didn't. The other big thing for me has been the aftercare. I've met with Prof several times, as well as speaking with Sandra and Charli whenever I needed to. To me this is every bit as important as the procedure itself. I can't recommend Prof Kerrigan and his amazing team at Phoenix Health enough. Just do it!
Anybody reading this will be in the same boat as I was...well maybe not everyone... but a lot... I had a band fitted years ago by another company with NO AFTERCARE. I ended up extremely ill..ultimately having it removed in 2011. The whole thing was totally traumatic and the thought of going through bariatric surgery again was very frightening for me... Forward 4 years, a 9 stone gain and 3 visits to Professor Kerrigan over a 2 year period crying and blubbering every time to try and pluck up the courage to go for a gastric bypass..and I finally took the plunge .. I asked questions, that’s when I wasn’t crying with apprehension And he TOTALLY put my mind at rest...as did Barbara who is a fantastic asset Along with the rest of the team, who incidentally have a brilliant reputation in the industry... 6 weeks ago I left his office and started my liver shrinking diet, 4 weeks ago I had my band to bypass and hernia repair and I’m 2 stone lighter... I have had NO Issues whatsoever... I can eat EVERYTHING just small amounts... and I CANNOT believe I took so long to have this operation... I cannot stress enough the level of professionalism, after care and genuine concern for the patient... I would highly recommended Proff And his team... ps this time round money wasn’t an issue MY SURGEON AND AFTERCARE was... you can’t put money on your life!!!! Good luck... you won’t regret it!!
I had previously had a gastric band which had to be removed with another provider. I had regained weight and wanted to find a surgeon experienced in revision surgery. Research led me to Prof Kerrigan and his team and I underwent a gastric bypass two and a half years ago. I was quite poorly after surgery but was well looked after by the Prof and his team. I find the aftercare from Charlie the dietician excellent and Barbara is so friendly and puts you at ease. The care makes it worth the long journey for follow ups.
A heartfelt thank you to Prof Kerrigan and his team. In 2005, with a different UK organisation, I had a gastric band and lost 11 stone. I maintained my weight at around 11.7 stone (size 12, absolute heaven having been a size 30!!). Then a year ago I suddenly I noticed I could eat a bit more and gradually my weight increased by about 2 stone. I felt enormous and wondered how I had ever managed to exist at my previous 22st weight. I had three barium swallows (and 'fills' which did not last more than a few days) which revealed my band was leaking. I was very upset and totally terrified of gaining all the weight back as I knew what my body was capable of. I planned to have another band as it had worked well for me, although I did find eating difficult with it, and have lost count of how many times I have vomited when starting to eat (vomiting settled as eating a meal progressed) which is fine when you are in the privacy of your own home, but very embarrassing when you are in restaurant with friends/family who do not know you have a band and you have to make excuse after excuse as you leave the table to visit the toilet! After doing some 'googling', I found out it is not uncommon for a band to develop problems, which was not explained to me when I had the pre-surgery appointment with the previous doctor who did that operation (I was told in a ten minute appt in Harley Street you will 'only be able to eat 3-4 chips and be full all day' - soon turned out not to be true!). Therefore, I decided that if I had another band I may, in the years to come, need further surgery and, although I may not have done, due to the cost and risks of surgery, I decided I really did want a definitive procedure. Looking for a surgeon that does band conversions to bypasses proved tricky and in my 'googling' I found Professor Kerrigan. I immediately liked his lovely, kind face (not necessarily a valid reason to pick a surgeon but he just looked so caring, knowledgeable and happy) so I contacted Barbara for an appointment, explaining my situation and that, although no longer obese and therefore technically qualifying for bariatric surgery, would the Prof see me to discuss? She was absolutely delightful, so understanding, caring and kind, and immediately put me at my ease. As I live in the south, and he works in Chester, I wanted to be sure he would even consider me before making the journey so she kindly asked him and he agreed. On meeting the Prof, I immediately liked him, he explained everything to me (the options of a bypass or a mini bypass and all the possible complications etc). He totally understood my fear of gaining weight and agreed to do the surgery for me. The operation was booked a week later and all went very well (operation a bit technical I understand due to adhesions). I soon lost the two stone I had regained and am back to my target weight again. The bypass makes eating a more natural thing, rather than the tight restriction of the band, and I have never vomited so eating out with family/friends has once again become a pleasure rather than a chore. I eat three small meals per day, have never had the 'dumping' thing, but am careful what I eat i.e. healthy foods. I feel, and have felt since that first contact with Barbara, cared for and safe. I know people think of the money, and I understand that, and they go abroad for cheaper surgeries, but I urge anyone considering that to look beyond the price. Having a skilled surgeon/team in the UK (for me 4 hours away) is utterly priceless as if you were to have a complication getting help from an 'abroad provider' could prove costly in terms of money and health. I have never regretted having the band, but now I have the bypass I know this is the better option for me. To anyone reading this and considering surgery, I could not recommend the Prof and his team more highly and am so glad I chose him. I am coming one year anniversary of the bypass.
Meeting Professor Kerrigan and his team has been a life changing experience for my husband and myself. A recommendation from our GP prompted me to commence a period of research to understand the options available to me and the surgeons who be able to perform the bariatric surgery in our area. Although we live on the South Coast it quickly became apparent that there were very few surgeons who were as experienced with the gastric sleeve procedure which I felt was the best option for me.I therefore arranged a preliminary appointment with Professor Kerrigan and went armed with a long list of questions to ask before taking one of the most important decisions of my life. From the time I met Professor Kerrigan I knew that I was in the capable hands of a caring professional who certainly had the experience and knowledge of his subject. All of my questions were answered with clarity and honesty and by the time I left after my first consultation I was certain that if I decided to go ahead it would be with the Phoenix team. The day before my operation (on a Sunday) the car was loaded and my husband and I had just set off on our long journey to Chester when the phone rang. I was surprised to hear Professor Kerrigan’s voice and he wanted to speak to me as in checking out the pre-operative blood tests before my scheduled surgery he has detected that I had an underlying medical problem which had not been spotted previously. Having psyched myself up for the operation I returned home disappointed but to my amazement Professor Kerrigan was quickly on the case taking advice from other professionals and by the Tuesday of the same week he had arranged for me to see a consultant who specialised in my underlying medical condition. A further 12 months was to elapse before I was fit enough to undergo the bariatric surgery and whilst it would have been entirely possible for the Phoenix team to forget all about me they kept in touch and when I was ready to proceed I was made to feel welcome and well cared for from the time of my initial enquiry up until I arrived at the hospital in Chester and in fact ever since. In my first year I lost six stone and spurred on by my success one year later my husband also underwent the same procedure losing seven stone in his first year. To say that our experience has been life changing (not to mention probably life saving) would be an understatement! We now feel that we have regained control of our lives and have so much more energy and passion for life and unreservedly my husband and myself would strongly recommend others is our position to consider seeking advice and treatment from the Phoenix team. Our grateful thanks to Professor Kerrigan, Charli, Sandra and Barbara for all their support and encouragement throughout our experience over the last three years - with great confidence we can say that this is certainly the 'A Team' as far as our experience of bariatric surgery is concerned. My Mini Gastric Bypass has given me the tool I needed to get a life back. Although I paid privately for the operation, I really felt all decisions including the choice of operation were taken with my best interests at heart. Professor Kerrigan and the team behind him had empathy and were the first people I felt that really listened to me and then helped me along the journey. It isn't an easy thing to put yourself through such an operation so the surgeon and team around him and any after care and pre-op care were most important to me. So far (Just over a year out) I have lost over 8 stone since the operation - but most importantly it's what I can now do that counts for me - i.e. 20000 steps per day every day for a month when pre-op a hundred metres was nigh impossible without resting. My experience so far has been a positive one and I would advise anyone to look at Phoenix Health as one of their options. Ultimately you need to choose who you feel most comfortable with but I do not regret my choice at all - worth every penny imho.
Excellent service and on going support and treatment from the team. Opted for a sleeve from Prof K November 2015, in and out for my operation with first class service and treatment. Ten stone lost, 20 months out and maintaining easily. The follow up care and treatment is excellent from the team, I have contact via phone, email etc. they work around you and your lifestyle. They are always there to assist and support. I researched many other companies and did lots of checks and nothing compared to Phoenix, and I was right to go with them. I was a private patient paid however I know from chatting with others regardless if private or NHS the care and treatment is exactly the same.
I found all the team at Phoenix to be extremely helpful and professional. I had done some research and chose Phoenix as they seemed the most open and friendly, as well as being very transparent on pricing. I had my operation (gastric bypass) last November and have not looked back. It has really changed my life and I am so grateful to the team, particularly Mr Monk and Charli. Would definitely recommend Phoenix to others.
Really good service, although I'm not under their care they will always give me any advice or support I may need. Highly recommend their professionalism.
Phoenix health looks after you as an individual - the team are great very friendly and always happy to help Would highly recommend
Professor Kerrigan and his team are nothing short of excellent. The "Prof" as he is known to his colleagues, is an internationally renown bariatric surgery and it has been a pleasure to be able to call myself one of his clients. This is my second bariatric surgery after I had sought care through a competitor of Phoenix Health whom recommended that I have a gastric band. This was not because of any medical advice given, this was simply what I could afford at the time. After parting with my money I was assured of excellent aftercare, with check ups with my surgeon and follow ups with professional diet specialists to help me on my journey. The surgery worked, I lost the weight, my husband and I were astounded by the progress that I made in such little time. This is where things started to go wrong..... For those possibly not in the know, a gastric band is a piece of medical equipment which is surgically implanted at the top of the stomach, the idea is that is stops that hungry feeling and restricts how much you can eat. This is done by filling the band with a nontoxic fluid which tightens the band around the area; this not only restricts access to the stomach but also clamps on nerve endings that send "hungry" messages to the brain. All went well, I found the diet specialist was a bit elusive but the nurse I saw once every couple of months was lovely and very supportive so this made up for it. No other support was offered to me. My last appointment with the nurse was to have my band filled to its full capacity, I have now discovered that this was ill advised and did not help matters. I was supposed to have two follow up appointments with the surgeon, neither happened, the last I saw of him was when he did the surgery. Having the band at its tightest meant that I could not get food into my stomach unless I was having some kind of sauce to lubricate it through the small entry I now had, this lead to me starting to gain weight which was devastating after doing so well for so long. I felt like I was failing... Some two years after I was taken into A & E by my husband because I was having terrible pains from my lower abdominal region, to the point where I was doubled over in pain. The on call surgeon identified the problem as the gastric band and had it drained of all fluid. It later transpired that the band was not to blame but another pre-existing condition. This lead to me meeting Professor Kerrigan, I was passed by the NHS to Phoenix Health for the ongoing care of my gastric band, despite me living in Wales I was welcomed to the clinic in England and my care continued. Soon after becoming an NHS patient I wasn't loosing the weight with the band as I had before, I wasn't getting any restriction from it, I asked the nurse if she could check how much fluid was in the band. There should have been 9ml of fluid, there was only 4ml, the band was leaking! (At this point let me stipulate, this was not because of the NHS surgeon or the nurses that continued my care as fluid was always put in / removed by a professional, it was simply not designed to be emptied and then filled again and again). Just after we found out the NHS was going to move all bariatric operations to Stoke, which had no funding and was too far way from where I live. Phoenix Health gave me the options that I had, I could have the band removed, I could have the band replaced or I could have an alternative treatment. After much thought I decided that I should book an appointment with Professor Kerrigan to discuss what to do next. I was at no point just pressured down one route, it was my decision, I simply asked what the best option would be to get me back on track having now regained all the weight that I had lost. I called my husband and explained what had happened, his answer was simple "whatever it costs, we'll find a way" we decided to go for further surgery rather than just have it removed, it was at this point we started privately with Phoenix Health. The care I received was exactly the same as what I got from the NHS, this may sound like an insult, it is as far as possible from it! It shows the level of professional help that Phoenix gives you. Wether you are paying for it or its going through the NHS. I saw the same people who knew me and what I had been through so they could advise me from an informed point of view. We discussed all options available and I was given three levels of care. Each of which had more benefits depending on what you wanted or needed. At no point was I pressured, given a sales pitch, told "Sign here as its a limited time offer" etc. I simply selected the best care that I needed. After an on-line application by my husband for funding, I went down the Mini Gastric Bypass route as recommended by Professor Kerrigan, not based on financial reasons but because this would be the best option for me and my future. The date for the surgery was prompt following payment, the surgery was performed by Professor Kerrigan and he checked up on me twice while I was still in the hospital. The thing I would say about the Professor is if you pay to be under his care, what he says goes! You do what you are told, he is the professional and you need to do what he says or you will not reach the full potential of your treatment. Simple as! I would recommend Phoenix Health to anyone, Professor Kerrigan, Barbara, Charlie, Denise, all the aftercare nurses at the Nuffield in Chester and Helen who assisted in the surgery. Thank you, all of you! I have my life back and can't wait for the future. 3 stone down 10 weeks post op. With very best Wishes! Beca and Steve Wood. P.S. Carrie might need to careful about being cheap with gastric surgery.
I've always had trouble with my weight since been at school I've been to other specialists and they where to be honest crap they rush my operations and then rushed me home then I moved to Cheshire area and got a excellent doctor who put me in touch with professor Kerrigan and the rest they say is history that been the weight of course I had the best transition from consolation to operation then after care which was excellent they don't give you nonsense like other weight loss surgery clinics out there they give it to you straight down the line the best health care I've had in a very long long time I would recommend them in an instant.
Phoenix have been nothing short of incredible. I am now 6 weeks post-op, 70lbs down and I've been supported every step of the way. Professor Kerrigan is a fountain of knowledge, he knows his craft inside and out. There was never a moment during our conversations that I felt he wasn't able to adequately answer my questions. He's also incredibly involved in the entire process and seems to genuinely care about everything, not just performing the surgery. He visited every day of the hospital visit, answered any questions and knew of every little problem or question I'd asked the nurses. All of the other staff at Phoenix have been amazing, Denise and Charli together helped me work through various issues that I had. Barbara was the perfect introduction to the company and Sandra is an angel! Sandra is the nurse who looked after me on the day of the surgery and she was brilliant, I was a nightmare and she took it in her stride, knew the answer to all of my questions and was incredibly kind. At my starting weight, there aren't many surgeons who would even touch me, Phoenix and Professor Kerrigan rose to the occasion and I've not had ANY complications since surgery. I couldn't recommend Phoenix more.
Best care I've ever encountered in a medical sphere. Superb nurses and very professional doctors made me feel at home
