I had thought about gastric surgery for over 10 years meeting a couple of surgeons which I didn't feel ultimately I could put my trust in. I met with Professor Kerrigan and instantly felt I could go through with it. I care for my mum and I knew I needed to get on top of my weight for longevity but was also terrified of something going wrong with the operation leaving my mum vulnerable. Prof Kerrigan talked me through the procedure in detail, gave me the facts and figures of his own success rate and how this compared to the national averages. He listened to me and understood not only how it would improve my health but also my confidence. Following that meeting I had no hesitation in signing up for the op. Everyone at Phoenix has encouraged me before and after the op and I was delighted at my three month post op review when Prof Kerrigan told me that I had lost 60% of my excess weight already. My knees are easier, exercise is easier, clothes shopping is now fun and the constant battle in my own mind over what I should or shouldn't eat has gone freeing me up to think about and do so many more things. Prof Kerrigan and his team have truly helped me improve the quality of my life and ensure that I can do everything I need to, to look after my mum and myself. I would recommend phoenix to anyone in a heartbeat.
After much deliberation and a lengthy phone call with Prof Kerrigan and two of Phoenix's psychologists I made the decision to book into the Nuffield Hospital inChester to have a gastric sleeve performed. I was treated with dignity and respect by the Phoenix staff throughout. The operation went well and the aftercare I received was second to none. I saw Prof Kerrigan at some point every day I was in hospital and was free to ask or discuss anything on my mind. The nursing staff were wonderfully attentive and kind, in particular the Phoenix nurse Sandra. I was monitored on a very regular basis and the staff were professional and exceptionally pleasant. The aftercare pain relief was very well monitored. All in all as a team I would highly recommend the Phoenix Healthcare Group.
After carrying out alot of research on bariatric surgery and speaking to others who had undergone surgery, Prof David Kerrigan at Phoenix Health was the name that kept being mentioned, and so my choice was made, I contacted Barbara at his office to make an appointment for a consultation, I have to say from the beginning to end all the staff have been so helpful. I was very nervous but my consultation with Prof Kerrigan put my mind at ease and I couldn’t wait for my life to change, from consultation to operation was around two weeks, and I’d wished I’d done this years ago , Nuffield in Chester were excellent the staff very friendly and always helpful I couldn’t have asked for more, the team were very caring and I didn’t feel embarrassed at all about my weight I was making the change :) this was a new start for me, I’ve struggled all my life with weight it seems to “stick to me like glue” as I’m getting older I noticed my joints were aching , my blood pressure was high and I was verging on diabetes, after having one knee replacement I didn’t want another, I needed to get a grip of my life to enjoy my grandaughter. For those thinking of surgery I would definitely recommend Phoenix and Prof Kerrigan team, his staff, dieticians, psychologist are there on hand , you won’t be disappointed, go on make that change you won’t regret it 😊
This has been the best decision of my life.. as after finishing work 6yrs ago to bring up my youngest child, I started to gain weight. I ended up putting 5st on. Feeling very depressed and stuck in a rut.. I didn't even want to go to my local pub for a drink, my husband went alone and I sat in the house comfort eating, I met an old friend in the town who had had the surgery 12 months before.. and highly recommend prof Kerrigan. I cannot thank my friend enough for recommending Phoenix health as they've been amazing from the start. I can now buy the clothes I like and feel fantastic xxxx
I have just completed my Gastric Bypass surgery. After a life of failed weight loss and re-gain, and more recently with reducing health. I decided to act on my own to invest in my future just before Christmas. The team at Phoenix Health is too large to mention individually here but the support from the "idea" stage through meeting the team leader, Professor Kerrigan, for my initial consultaion on 9th January and on to my operation on 19th February, was and is fantastically supportive on every aspect of concern. The back up support both on exiting the hospital with the right advice, medication and continuing appointments for reviews, plus the open invitation to "just call anytime". Has made the whole experiance truely easy. Of course this is an intended change to life and therefore I am finding it life changing! But already am excited about the substantial change it has brought to my future with my family, the world already seems a much brighter place, less blighted by constant "weight control failure issues" that toally dominated life .... until now. Many thanks to all at Phoenix. To thise who struggle in life with similar issues, do it if you can, you will not be disappointed.
Following advice from Prof Kerrigan, I had a One Anastomosis bypass at Chester in May 2017. I have lost just over 60% of my excess weight and feel great. Improvements to my health have been amazing. I no longer take medication for diabetes, my sleep apnoea has gone and I take half the medication I used to for high blood pressure. My mobility has also greatly improved. The team at Phoenix Health are professional and friendly and I cannot recommend them highly enough, especially Gillian, whom I see at my regular check ups. I would highly recommend Phoenix Health to anyone considering bariatric surgery.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said I had a gastric bypass in Chester on the 23/10/17 carried out by a first class surgeon by the name of professor David Kerrigan and his team the surgery went smoothly and the recovery was as smooth with the Phoenix team at my side every step of the way . Nearly four months in and I’ve lost 8 stone thanks to the ongoing support i recieve from Phoenix’s dietitian Gillian Galway. I would like to thank professor Kerrigan and his amazing team and all the nursing staff who took excellent care of me at the grosvener Nuffield hospital in Chester thank you so much , I would highly recommend phoenix health to anyone considering weight loss surgery.
Three months ago I had a laparoscopic gastric bypass with Phoenix health done by prof David Kerrigan. I am very pleased with my procedure and with David Kerrigan team the whole experience up to date has been nothing short of first class.
My journey so far with Phoenix Health has been an excellent experience! From making a general enquiry to the consultantion with Mr Duncan Stewart has been meet by friendly, approachable professionals. I had my surgery Dec '17 and nothing was too much trouble for them to ensure I was at ease and comfortable. The Surgical Team (Mr Duncan Stewart - my consultant, Jen (sorry didn't know full name) & Prof David Kerrigan) were amazing and explained everything along the way. Mr Stewart & Jen visited me every day I was in hospital, spent time to listen to how I was feeling. It was clear to me, their upmost concern apart from my surgery going well was my recovery and pain levels, which was extremely comforting to know. I was not rushed out of hospital at all, the whole nursing team where amazing and a dedicated nurse always on hand. Nothing was too much trouble to ensure your comfort, I can't thank everyone enough who cared for me. On returning home, I even received a call from Pheonix Health Care to ensure I was ok and the same the next day! They have ensured I have all contact numbers for over the Christmas period so they are only a call away if needed. I can't thank Mr Stewart & Jen for their care and ensuring I went home with good recovery and comfort levels. I recommend Phoenix Health Care strongly to anyone who wants to to this journey, their aftercare is outstanding!
I had a gastric bypass and hernia repair in June 217 with Mr Monk at. Chester. Great service ftom a grear team. Easy to contact, and a very fast response to any queries or questions that I had. No problems post op. In 6 months I've lost 52% of my excess weight. My BMI has reduced from 48 to 36. I'm delighted.
So glad I went to Phoenix Healthcare. They are very professional, but also really helpful and friendly. They are always there to advise and reassure you. The team are fantastic. I would highly recommend them to anyone
I had my weight loss procedure over 12 years ago and it's reassuring to know I can still receive excellent support and advice from Professor Kerrigan and his team when needed. Booking appointments is smooth and all staff are extremely helpful and professional. I would highly recommend Phoenix Healthcare to anyone considering weight loss surgery.
I had my surgery over 6 years ago now. Performed at murrayfield hospital. It has changed my life. I was 28 stone went down to 15 stone 6lbs my lightest. Wasn't happy with my shape etc. I have been training ever since and used to train in my earlier days. Up to 17 stone now with muscle mass. Which helps draw back the skin that is not so elastic now being 48 years of age. I cannot thank Connor and the team enough for helping me change my life. It's not a magic operation. But it can give you the start to make a difference in your life. With a little determination, exercise and food knowledge. There is nothing you can't do! Good luck to everyone...nice to meet you Gillian. How surprised were you when we met on our travels lol
I am 3 days post op having the SADI-S procedure and I couldn't feel more satisfied and more importantly prepared for the new life ahead that awaits me. Everything from start to finish just makes sense - the team at Phoenix work so well & closely together everything is completely seamless. The Prof, as everyone calls him, is an utter genius - he'll tell you he's "just doing his job", but it goes way beyond that. It's incredibly hard to put in writing just how good he is at what he does - but you'll know as soon as you meet him that he's the guy you need. However, although the Prof is outstanding, the team he works with are an integral part of the entire process. I could write a mini review on each individual person I've had the honor of meeting, but I'll leave that pleasantry for you to witness first hand. You are completely supported from the start with an answer to every single question you send their way. At no point have I ever felt alone, lost or most importantly, a sense of losing control. You are treated with respect, as a human and are never judged. Pricing is competitive and what each "package" entails is, without any missed detail, given to you in an easy-to-digest manner. If you're committed to this from day 1, you'll absolutely thrive under the care of the entire Phoenix team - as their website says, "It's Time to Change".
Like many other patients, I have been researching and deliberating bariatic surgery for many years but kept going back to try slimming world, Cambridge and any other diets that were promoting great weigh loss- This year I decided enough was enough....I was no longer prepared to go on a weigh loss journey when deep down I knew i would end up putting it back on as quick.....I have accepted I have a problem that dieting will never fix so I decided to seek help and I turned to Phoenix. Being from Northern Ireland, there has been limited access to this surgery without travelling to England. Phoenix are looking to resurrect surgeries at the Ulster Independent Clinic but I wanted to share my experience of travelling to Manchester-this will be something you will have to do if your BMI very high or if you have certain medical conditions, mine being sleep apnoea. Do not let this put you off, travelling an hour in a plane or a few more by ferry and car in order to get your life back is a very small price. You will have your initial consultation in Belfast with specialist Bariatic dietician Gillian-she is excellent and a real credit to Phonenix. She will fully explain the options, what the procedures involve and the pre and post op diets.....I left my consultation signed up, it's that reassuring. Gillian remained very contactable throughout and was more than helpful with all aspects of the planning. Your next step will be a consultation with Prof Kerrigan and again you know instantly you are in the best hands-obviously with his expertise but also his understanding of your own personal needs and expectations. This is a telephone consultation and it worked out perfect. There is then the paperwork and admin procedures to be completed prior to you surgery which again couldn't have went better...credit to Barbara, Sally, Emma and rest of the team based in Chester-efficient, helpful and again reassuring. Now for your trip to Manchester or Cheshire-don't be put off. Easyjet from Aldergrove or Flybe from George Best City Airport offer cheap and regular flights. I opted for Manchester, BMI The Alexandra hospital. It's around 10minutes by an airport taxi costing less that £20. The staff and facilities are top of the range. You will need to come over the day before your surgery if from NI, to get bloods done but Phoenix have negotiated an overnight stay at The Alex for you. When you meet Prof Kerrigan in person on the day of surgery, you know you have made the right choice-any fears put at ease. I can verify everything all the other reviewers have said and you know you are in the hands of one of the best. During my stay he was assisted by another Consultant, Jennifer who did a great job talking me through what to expect. Now for the procedure-I opted for the sleeve gastrectomy-it is truly a lot less daunting than you imagine. My surgery took place in the afternoon, I woke up in recovery in slight discomfort but the medical staff are excellent for pain management. It really isn't that bad. Decent sleep the night after surgery and then a day of IV antibiotics and other necessary treatments to get you back on your feet. The staff at The Alex are genuinely excellent both myself and my family have been treated superbly. So here I am less than 24hrs after surgery, up and about my room, pain free, 3 meals eaten(smoothie for breakfast, soup for lunch and dinner) and typing a review before for my last night sleep at The Alex...the life changing journey has started and the bit I feared the most, over and done with very little drama and a lot of professionalism. If you are in two minds about anything, especially if from NI and worried about travel and staying away for surgery-then please don't let this be a barrier - speak to Phoenix and they will help you make an informed decision and put your mind at rest....this is very achievable with just a little extra planning. Just check your flights and surgery times match up particularly if family want to travel over but not stay the 3 nights. I know I have included a lot of information, some which may not appear to be directly relevant to reviewing Phoenix but, I felt it was important to share my entire experience as I know it will help NI patients make their minds up. I would without hesitation recommend Phoenix and I have hopefully convinced another family member to travel over to Manchester asap to have the same done. Good luck on your journey and happy to discuss my experience with anyone. 3 words to leave you with about Phoenix: Professional Caring Reassuring
I deliberated for almost 2 years about whether to have bariatric surgery in order to support me in gaining control of my weight. After much soul searching and research I chose to book a consultation with Professor David Kerrigan. The consultation was nothing other than perfect, Professor Kerrigan immediately put me at my ease and filled me with confidence that the One Anastomosis gastric bypass was a good option for me in preventing future health problems. You know what it feels like when something just feels right, I felt safe, I valued his professionalism, wealth of experience and warm persona I knew from that moment that this was the surgeon and the team for me! I'm 10 days post operation, everything is going really well, I'm feeling better every day and felt well enough to work from home this afternoon! It was great just to be able to trust someone enough to be vulnerable and for a short time to put myself completely into their hands. I can't leave a review without recognising the whole Phoenix team to name but a few, Barbara, Sandra and Charli they're all stars, human and hugely supportive! Thank You!
Prof Kerrigan did my band in 2007, then did my revision surgery June 26th 2017. Super communications between myself and the Phoenix team. Just a phone call away if I had any questions. Clear cut package pricing, with variable aftercare offered... no pressure to chose.. smooth hospital addmittance, and after care... could highly recommend Phoenix health.
I first met Prof Kerrigan and the team in 2008 when I had a gastric band fitted and thought this would be the answer and the quick fix to all my weight problems....how wrong I was. I did struggle with the band and although I did lose weight I felt that it was an uphill struggle. 9 years on and the band removed and still struggling with my weight I started researching again. More in-depth this time! I went back to Prof Kerrigan as I knew he was reknowned, experienced and could give me the support I needed. So on the 30th October 2017 I had a gastric bypass. I did encounter a few problems post op but these were managed by Prof and the team immediately leaving me and my family feeling safe and supported. It’s obviously early days but all the support is there ie, dietician, psych support, Jen the bariatric Consultant working along side Prof and of course all the team that pull everything together. I wish I’d have done it years ago but hey ho and here now, starting my new life. If you have any doubts then don’t, it will be the best decision that you make.
From the moment I spoke to Barbara to enquire about bariatric surgery I instantly felt at ease. Barbara was so warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. She went above and beyond to help me reach my decision and answered every one of my many questions! As soon as I met Mr Javed I knew he’d be the surgeon for me. He was just lovely and very experienced. I had every confidence in him that he would do a great job - and he did it!!! On the day of my surgery I was looked after by Sandra who was quite possibly one of the nicest ladies you’ll have the pleasure to meet. She put my nerves at ease and was there with a calming presence when I woke up from surgery. I felt pretty rotten after I woke up and Sandra was there to help me and reassure me that I was ok. Sandra - thank you so much for everything - I couldn’t have done it without you! Then I met Charli - my dietician! Charli was absolutely fantastic! She was really positive and excited for me to begin my journey to good health and was on hand to answer all of my questions after surgery about what I could and couldn’t eat! Nothing was too much trouble for Charli and I look forward to seeing her at my follow up appointments! I honestly cannot recommend Phoenix Health enough. It is in my opinion in a league of its own when it comes to the knowledge, the care and support they offer to each and everyone of their patients. I am half way to my target weight but already, it has changed my life completely. I am living again now instead of merely existing and that is all down to everyone at Phoenix Health. Thank you so much to everyone - you have well and truly saved me. You have given me back my life and my children back their mum! I am eternally grateful. If anyone is considering weight loss surgery as an option to regain back their life and improve their health, just pick up the phone or drop Phoenix Health an email and you’ll not regret it!
My advice...stop thinking and waiting and letting time pass you by and go for it - it will be the best decision you will ever make. I regret not having this done ten years ago. Don't wait years on an NHS waiting list, the money you spend will be well worth it! I had a gastric band fitted over 2 years ago now, I won't say it is an easy fix and all smooth sailing, but is well worth it. I have lost 4 stone and have reduced my BMI by 10. I would never have done this through normal dieting which I have been doing for over 20 years. I am so pleased I chose Phoenix Health as they aren't just about the operation, it is a long-term care plan. From the very first steps of thinking about having a bariatric operation (whether it was right for me and, if so, which operation to have) to 2 years down the line speaking to the dietitian and discussing my diet and exercise. Initially (after contacting Phoenix Health staff on the phone), I spoke to a very experienced surgeon who talked through my health problems, lifestyle and operation options. He answered my long list of questions and immediately made me feel at ease. The best bit was that the gastric band was carried out within a couple of months (my decision), no long NHS waiting list! I also spoke to a dietitian and a psychologist before the operation who answered further questions and explained the change in diet. I had to follow a pre-op eating plan to shrink my liver which was easy to follow (despite being a gluten-free vegetarian) and I lost over half a stone in a couple of weeks and felt like I was eating more than I usually do! Before having surgery they do many blood tests and an ECG which made me feel more confident about having the operation. The operation itself went smoothly and I was not in pain afterwards. I left the hospital the next day. It is a big challenge following the post-op diet, starting off with liquids, moving on to pureed food in ramekin dishes, before eating solids, but you find the portion sizes are enough at this stage. Within the first 6 months the weight dropped off me. Once on solids and tea plate size portions the weight loss eased off, but I carried on losing a healthy and steady rate, whilst still enjoying food. It isn't an easy resolution, but a whole lifestyle change - eating from tea size plates and thinking daily about what you are eating and increasing your protein and lowering carbs/fats and sugars. But within a short amount of time you are in a routine. Once the operation is over, you still get continued support from the Phoenix team. They are on the end of the phone and you have follow-up appointments with your surgeon and a dietitian and psychologist if you wish. They can continue to help support you with eating plans, food diaries, advice and questions etc. They also run monthly group sessions which is good for all bariatric patients to talk to one another for support and share ideas and success stories. With the band, it is also important to get the fill level right so you can eat enough, but not too much to cause complications. These are carried out with both the surgeon and dietitian. I really can't express enough what a difference it has made (not just in my weight, but my self-confidence, anxiety levels and general health). Phoenix Health have been great, they are friendly, caring, professional and a very competent.
