On Wednesday 28th April I attended BMI Alexandra Hospital through Phoenix Health. This is the first time I've ever had a hospital stay not to mention major surgery! Miss Darrian and Mr Javed both came to talk to me about the procedure and was available to answer any questions that I had for them about the operation. I had RNY Gastric Bypass and remember waking up in recovery and seeing Miss Darrien and Mr Javed checking on me. I am now 20 days post op and my incisions are healing very well and I've had no complications so far. Phoenix Health have been brilliant so far and am looking forward to a brighter, healthier future! Thank you Miss Darrien!

I had gastric balloon The Elipse inserted in February at Phoenix Health clinic. From the day one I had very good experience with the team. Baloon was inserted by consultant in the clinic. Procedure was quickly performed in professional and kind atmosphere. I was explained what to expect and I had an opportunity to discuss all my worries and concerns. Since procedure I have been having regular telephone reviews by Silvia the dietitian. Silvia was very helpful and supportive throughout them 3 months. Also could ring her or email if I had any questions and she was always there for me. I've lost 11 kg so far and have been very happy. Since having the balloon I eat a little portions and don't feel hunger. I do highly recommend gastric balloon in the Phoenix Health. Good luck. Magda

After a lot of research and months of yo yo dieting I finally filled in the application for a call from phoenix health. The consultant was very informative and was very person centred, he talked me through all the options I did choose the 12 month balloon which would have cost a lot more than the 4 month balloon the consultant recommend, I went with his recommendation. Balloon placement is very quick and not bad at all, I had already received a pack through the post of very informative possible side effects, I had none of these, in fact after 2 days of having the balloon placed I didn't know it was there. Silvia was my point of contact for any problems or questions, I had a few for the first month and I knew if I emailed Silvia she would answer me straight away, Silvia has been amazing through out my journey with the balloon. My starting weight was 15stone iam now 12st 4lb I'm so happy with what I have lost so far, my journey has now ended with the balloon and with phoenix health however I do feel I'm totally back in control of my food and choices I'm making and I'm confident I will reach my goal weight of 11st 5lb. The balloon and Silvia have helped re educate me and I can't thank her enough she is amazing!! I would highly recommend phoenix health to anyone thinking of taking the path of the Elipse balloon, I also thank them for the lovely gift I received to congratulate me on my weight loss. Thankyou Silvia and the team at phoenix health 😊😊

Steve Doyle - I had my operation with Phoenix Health 23 months ago. I've lost approx 8 stone. All of The Team from start to finish have offered professional advice and Health Care. The slightest issue was sorted out immediately. If you require any advice or help, a simple phone call to a 24/7 number is all that it takes. Today, I was signed off. I would like to say a massive thank you to ALL who have been involved with my case. 10 out of 10.

I would highly recommend Pheonix & Chester Nuffield Hospital. Over the last year I have had numerous investigations which lead to Bariatric revision surgery 2 months ago. I am well on my way to recovery. My experience in the hospital due to COVID-19 was excellent. I don’t think any of the team could have taken any more precautions than they did. I felt completely reassured I was in safe hands. I was extremely anxious going into hospital however I was well cared for. I hope I don’t need to return for any more treatment but if I do I won’t hesitate.

Hello reader, health warning, this is a little on the lengthy side as I felt it important for people to understand the journey behind my story. It may help people who are starting out or may need some reality checks before embarking or indeed on it. Before I start then, I have given a 5 star rating even though my review is due to something not going as planned. If you don't want to read it all, editors review is.....even though I ended up very poorly, as a responsible adult there are times when we have to accept this type of surgery and subsequent journey will entail some things we don't expect or want to happen. This I am afraid is something I had to accept and was aware and educated back at the start. The management and expertise of the Phoenix Team lead by Miss Darrien was second to none. Quick, considerate and personable. I started my bariatric journey when I was 30 (now 46) when after years - even through childhood, I had struggled with my weight. Turning 30 with a weigh in of 18st 10lbs I knew I needed to do something more permanent. I self funded a gastric band procedure through Phoenix with Prof Kerrigan. Although I had a BMI of 39 ish, I didn't feel I warranted the full bypass. I ran into some difficulties 18 months later when I started to struggle eating and drinking. After investigations it returned findings that my band had slipped (something that can happen). I went through a repositioning and subsequently continued to lose the weight - sporadically but consistently over time. By 2007 I had reached a happy state of weight and fitness. I was 11st 4 (I am 5ft 8) and running a couple of miles a day. In 2012 I had my daughter, all fine, no problems, however because of the sickness I had the fluid removed so I was able to eat the variety I needed. Sadly I did pile the weight on - around 4 stone. When I was allowed, I started to have the band inflated but there were issues with me eating and drinking again. After investigations, again the band had slipped. It was at this point I was advised that a repositioning was not possible and so with an amazing Phoenix Dietician, they fought my corner with the commissioners and I was allowed to have the transition to the bypass under the NHS. I was successful again in getting back down to my previous weight. Around 2 years later I suffered from ulceration of the anastomosis - the tube created between the new stomach pouch and small intestine. One of the reasons for never smoking and take your PPIs (if prescribed), to ensure it doesn't break down. I was issued Omeprazole and didn't look back. Until the summer of 2020. Over a period of a few weeks I began to become more intolerant of solids, being sick after most meals in the end. As I got to October I was pretty desperate, being sick all the time and lost over a stone. I tried to get into the local A&E, Urgent Care and GP. It was impossible to infiltrate the system during covid unless you were presenting as an emergency - and I work within it and know people! Desperate, I decided I only had one more option to try, I called Phoenix in the hope of a consultation. The admin staff who answered the phone was utterly sympathetic and also concerned that I needed medical attention asap. Within and hour one of the clinical team called me back to take a history. Then the following day I had a telephone consultation with Miss Darrien. It was agreed I needed an investigative gastroscopy and I attended clinic and had it performed the following week. Basically my anastomosis was stenosed (restricted) from scar tissue from previous ulceration and was barely letting anything through. I returned for two dilatations (stretches) which were limited in effectiveness. The final time I attended on 11th January for a further dilatation. As I was fully informed I understood that the procedure had a risk of perforation, especially as my physiology wasn't the best anyway! When I started to come round from the sedation, I knew something wasn't right as I was in a lot of pain. I was admitted and put on strong pain relief. I had a CT scan which determined there was a small perforation in the anastomosis. I was on nil by mouth but by 14th I had gone downhill and all my observations were showing infection. I was taken back for surgery to repair the perforation and I returned to ITU. As the early days progressed it was told I had sepsis, understandable from the leaks. I was hooked up to copious medications, IV antibiotics x 2, morphine, fluids, etc. After a couple of more days I had a central line set up and was fed via that. I came out of ITU after 2 weeks, the staff at the BMI Alexander were amazing. Miss Darrien, and the team were there everyday between them. I was kept fully briefed at all times and felt part of the decision making. I left hospital after 24 days and am still on the recovery journey in expert hands

I cannot rate the Phoenix Team highly enough! Particularly Denise, Miss Darrien, Barb, Silvia and Sandra. I was really nervous about undergoing weight-loss surgery as I've had a few surgical complications before, so I had 5 consultations with different companies and surgeons and Phoenix was definitely the right choice for me! My treatment from the beginning has been professional, compassionate and I genuinely feel the team care about their patients and their long-term outcome. The whole team took into account my difficult medical history and have done everything possible to make me comfortable and safe - including patiently answering all of my many questions! The care at the hospital was fantastic, especially how regularly Miss Darrien visits the ward before and after surgery! If you're looking for a thorough, caring and compassionate team of people to guide you through your weight-loss surgery journey, look no further! From expert psychological support, excellent surgerical skill, thorough dietitians, supportive nurses and friendly and effecient administrators, Phoenix provides it all!

Phoenix health miss darrian and her team have given me my life back I am almost 3 months post op and 3 stone down including lrd(mini bypass) I can’t thank miss darrian enough she did a fantastic job and up to no my journey has been really good, the only reason this isn’t 5 star is due to the hospital room( Alexandra cheadle)I felt the hospital room was very basic and for the money paid expected a little more I am far from being a snob but the toilet in my room even had to pump the handle to get it to flush, if your lucky enough to be down the far end of the corridor well they are fantastic rooms (I seen when walking up and down) I asked the nurse why there was such a difference and she replied no difference in the care u receive, don’t get me wrong the care from the nurses and miss darrian was spot on and I would recommend them to everyone, this is just my personal opinion based on the room I was in, thanks again to miss darrian and the team xxx

Perhaps a bit late in the day for my Review but I have only just come across this page. I had Mini Gastric Bypass in May 2018 with better results than I could ever have dreamed of regarding my weight loss. I did have a few complications along the way which necessitated an extended stay at the Grosvenor Nuffield Hospital in Chester however, the personal attention received from Professor David Kerrigan and Miss Jennifer Darrien brought me through. The hospital staff were amazing and so kind, including the Nurses, Physiotherapists, Radiographers, Anaesthetists, Radiologists, and the Housekeeping Staff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Phoenix Health to anyone considering Bariatric Surgery. Professor Kerrigan who leads the Team at Phoenix, is a world renowned surgeon and an expert in his field.

Phoenix Health...A great team of people. Thanks to all for everything over the past year but especially Ms.Darrien. I knew from my very first consult that I was in great hands and was so comfortable form the onset. She explained everything I need to know in great detail and more. I didn't think 15 months ago I would have my life back so soon. But thanks to the gastric bypass and hard work on my part I have exceeded where I thought I would be. Anyone considering this surgery should take that step and set up a consultation with the Phoenix Health team. It will be the first step to getting your life back.

I had my gastric bypass in April 2019 performed by Miss Darrien at Grosvenor Nuffield, Chester. A huge thank you to everyone involved in my care, especially Miss Darrien. From my initial discussions with the lovely Barbara, through to all the arrangements pre-op, my consultation with Miss Darien... Then my care in the hostpital, and follow up appointments and support post surgery... The whole experience was amazing.. I cannot thank Phoenix enough for helping me to achieve what I could not do for myself, after 40 years of diets and heartache. Thanks to all involved at Phoenix..... Jackie

What can I say, nothing short of amazing! From the initial phone call with Barbra to meeting Miss Darrien in Belfast, everything progressed smoothly and with my wellbeing and care paramount. A date for the surgery was set for March and all of the support and ancillary bits clicked smoothly into place. Sadly the day before I was due to travel from Ireland the dreaded Covid lockdown hit and it was cancelled, Pheonix was there, relaying the little bit of information back as soon as it was available. Barbra was always ready with different options to get the job done! and truly championed my cause. She finally got everything in place with the help and support of Professor Kerrigan and the surgery took place at BMI Blackheath by Mr Sediqui on 12th November. The level of professionalism, but with a true passion and compassion shown by Mr Sediqui just shows I couldn't have made a better choice. I was walking the corridor the afternoon of the operation and have been pain-free from the get-go. The team at BMI Blackheath are amazing and again it shows the true level of professionalism within Pheonix by the hospitals they choose to work with. I cannot recommend Pheonix highly enough, I was in the best of hands, but as importantly I wasn't just a patent. I am heading home to Ireland next week sure in the knowledge that I have the support and advice available to me from a fantastic group of people on my weight loss and diabetes-free journey.

I'm so happy with my Phoenix Health experience. I spoke to the fantastic Lorna on my 1st call and she put me at ease straight away. I came for a consultation with professor Kerrigan who was amazing and he went through all the in's, out's, pro's and con's of each operation. We came to the conclusion that the sleeve was best for my need's. I spoke to a dietitian who wasn't that helpful with my needs, then I spoke to amazing Sylvia who is the best dietitian ever. My surgery was booked for the 23rd March........ Duhhh duhh duhhhhhh along came covid and cancelled it, then it cancelled my new date in August too. Over the course of my wait I spoke to Barbara, 2 Emma's and another lovely lady, they dealt with all my queries and worries fantastically and put me at ease. I had my surgery on 26th October and couldn't be happier. My surgeon was Ms Darrien, she is so lovely and obviously an amazing surgeon. I got to the Nuffield and was shown where everything was and what would happen during my stay and operation. I went down for my surgery and when I woke l was greeted with such kindness and understanding. I was shocked at just how much pain I WASN'T in. It was such an easy 48hrs, the lovely nurses helped me through. All the staff at the Nuffield especially Sheena and the day nurses. They were absolutely amazing and so thoughtful, helpful, kind, funny and professional, I will definitely use the Nuffield again just for the lovely staff. I went home 48hrs later with all the medicines I required which the lovely pharmacist had gone through with me. I went back for my staples out 10 days later where again I was treated like royalty. Great experience all round. I'm now 3 weeks out and to be honest if I didn't have my little keyhole scars and could fit more than 4 tablespoons of food in, I'd swear I'd had nothing done. Excellent service.

I had my sleeve gastrectomy operation on the 19th October 2020 at BMI Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. I was a little nervous before hand as I have never had surgery before. I had no need to be anxious. I went down to theatre at 1.30pm and by 4pm I was through the procedure, and recovery and was back in my own room. I would like to give a special mention of thanks to all of the staff at Phoenix Health and the fantastic Miss Darrien, who, from the start of my consultations to where I am now, has been amazing. Compassionate, smiley, informative and most importantly, a caring and extremely competent surgeon. I would also like to express special thanks to all of the staff at BMI Alexandra hospital {Chester ward}. All of the lovely nurses could not have been any kinder during my stay- very attentive to my post op needs- throughout my short stay. The day after surgery, I was walking up and down the corridor of the Chester Ward, pain free. I had no sickness, just a little uncomfortable due to the gas {completely normal} and nothing that a stroll around the ward can't ease! If you are reading this and considering a similar surgical procedure........Miss Darrien, Phoenix Health and the fantastic team at BMI Alexandra have been nothing short of amazing- Money well spent for such a positive, life changing opportunity. Thank you all once again.

Bariatric surgery completed successfully yesterday (sleeve gastrectomy) by Miss Darrien at the Cheadle based Queen Alexandra hospital. I would reassure anyone else considering this surgery. I have been super impressed by the assiduous and person centered approach by all those I have had contact with - despite covid the service has been exceptional. The surgery went really well, very attentive to pain relief needs and felt so looked after. My lovely nurse and care team on Chester ward could not be kinder, always there and able to help however small the issue. A special mention to the lovely Charlotte (HCA) who we agreed was entirely the reason for my amazingly speedy recovery 🤣. Also the hospital and bedroom/bathroom are assiduously clean and cleaned throughout. Little things like a duvet and nice big enough towels make it feel so much better. The day after surgery I've walked the corridor and am pain free, out of bed and enjoying (for the first time in my life) not constantly craving food. It is transformational. I don't feel at all sick, but comfortably full after a tiny amount. If anyone else is considering this please don't hesitate. And Miss Darrien is just a lovely, smiley and caring surgeon. So professional and takes the time so you never feel she is rushed. Thanks so much to all the team that have helped me - Phoenix have been amazing. Worth every penny for a life-changing opportunity. Its the cost of a single holiday and I know which I would rather have! 😊

I had a one-anastamosis (Mini) gastric bypass on 1st Sept 2020 in the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, as an NHS patient. Miss Darrien was my consultant. I absolutely cannot fault the care I received from Miss Darrien & from the wonderful staff on the Chester Ward of the Alex. I was kept in the loop brilliantly in the week approaching my surgery and came through the surgery with no problems, no pain & minimal discomfort. The nursing staff took excellent care of me and were outstanding. I am so grateful for all the staff involved at every step of the process, and as an NHS patient, I don't think that I could have received better care as a private patient. 4-5kg gone so far! Thank you all for giving me a brand new start!
