Where do I start? We booked a cruise to Alaska on the NCL Biss from Seattle followed by a Rockie mountain train ride from Seattle to Chicago with Jetline Cruise. Total disaster. Problems; 1. We had sailed on the Norwegian Bliss before so we booked and paid for an upgrade to a particular cabin with a larger than average balcony so our friends could join us whale watching on this once in lifetime holiday. When we checked in with NCL our cabin had been changed and so had our friend's cabin. Jetline blamed NCL, NCL blamed Jetline. Eventually Jetline admitted they had change our cabin for "administrative reasons" but would not explain what the administrative issue was or when they did it. The cabin number we booked was on our invoice so we paid the final balance due in good faith and at no point did Jetline cruises tell us about this change, when they made the change or gave any reasonable explanation why. They just referred to the small print that they "can" do this. 2. We flew with Lufthansa out of Manchester, changed flights in Germany to Seattle (yes we did travel in wrong direction, a 2 hour detour, but that is what Jetline booked!). When we arrived our luggage and our friends luggage had been lost in transit. Our friends got their luggage back on day 5 of a 7 day cruise. We got ours back 3 1/2 weeks later after the holiday was over thanks to my husband's tireless persistence. We spent our time in Seattle shopping for clothes, toiletries or at Seattle airport trying to locate our luggage. We did not get to sightsee in Seattle at all. The only shop we could find in Seattle was Target and sizes, styles, colours were very limited. We were told we would have bags back within 3 days so only bought a few clothes in Seattle. NCL were very very helpful but we still could not find our bags. My husband even went into NCL's offices behind reception on the ship to speak to Lufthansa. NCL gave us 2 free laundry bags but after that we were washing our clothes and underwear in the bathroom sink every night, throughout our holiday. Lufthansa compensated us for what we spent but there is no compensation for the enormous amount of disruption it caused to our "once in a lifetime" holiday. 3. The Amtrak train through the Rockies was a total waste of 2 days of your life. We went through the majority of the Rockies overnight! We had a "roomette". My husband really struggled to get on the top bunk, no warning of this anywhere for the less mobile. The train travels at very high speeds at night and it is like sleeping on a roller coaster, no warning of this anywhere. The whistle on the train is blowing constantly throughout the night as it passes over level crossings, no warning of this anywhere. So for the majority of the time you are just looking at prairies and plains across America, bleary eyed from a bad night sleep. We deeply regret booking this very expensive package with Jetline Cruise. It should have been a holiday of a lifetime, it was unforgettable but for the wrong reasons. Alaska was amazing and we made the best of our situation but highly recommend you book everything direct with your cruise company if you want to go to avoid the situation we found ourselves in. On this occasion Benjamin was extremely helpful in comparing and helping me to select the right cruise and the right hotels for our Azamara trip next year. he spent a great deal of time looking at the options and came back with a great deal at a good price.
