I love in person events but there is a lot to be said for it being online. Save time on travelling and stay in the office instead. Easier to ask questions. Easier I expect for speakers, and obviously so if they are far away as some were. There is a lot to be said for it. And all presented with the trademark enthusiasm.
I have joined The data science festival as it was offered on my university page. Also, I have joined our university student program which prompting students to be active and taking a part in online events. The festival itself was very interesting, but the communication with the coordinators is worse. To fulfill my university program I needed the approval of my attendance from the festival coordinators. Which was difficult to obtain and so I had many delays withing my university program. This complication lowered my impression of the festival.
Data Science Festival's Lunch & Learn Thursday sessions have been a terrific source of inspiration and renewal in my Data Science / Machine Learning journey. November 2020's month-long schedule of DSF events was also a blessing; I attended as many as I could and purchased access to recordings of all the rest. Many thanks to Data Idols for making these resources available, worldwide.
The event was well-organised and I loved the new structure, where you have on average 1 talk/day over a whole month instead of 1 week full of talks. This allowed many people to watch it during their work days. Many thanks for that! Also, the talks were varied and there were lots of great topics. Would have loved to have more technical talks, maybe this is something to think about in the future.
