My experience of working with Troubador Publishing on my book, ‘More Than Just Memories’ exceeded my expectations. I can recommend their services without reservation, both for new and established authors. I switched from the traditional publisher of my previous book, ‘Unravelling Sussex’ to Troubador for several reasons: • I donate all my writing proceeds to charity, the Alzheimer’s Society in this case, and so wish to maximise the returns. On a £9.99 cover price book this raises the royalties from around 45p-56p per book from a traditional publisher to around £6.50 per book for purchases direct from Troubador’s website bookshop. No contest! • I wished to retain full control of decision-making during book production, distribution and marketing. • The experienced professionals working in assisted self-publishing ensure production of a high-quality product. • With Troubador you can choose just those you need from an impressive range of services. My assigned Production Controller gently guided me every step of the way, clearly explaining options, replying to my queries fully and promptly, supplying explanatory leaflets, bringing in other teams at appropriate points, and scheduling the whole process smoothly. Most importantly, everyone involved really cared about me and my book. A shining example of customer service at its very best.

Self publishing as a first time author was a daunting prospect, but Troubador Publishing turned it into a stress-free process with complete professional guidance throughout. Working with Troubador was an absolute pleasure and an extremely positive experience - from sending my initial manuscript to the publication of my debut novel. The structures they have in place ran smoothly with every member of the team explaining everything clearly, and even putting up with my very random questions! I would highly recommend Troubador to any prospective self publishers out there!

My kid's book is now at the printer. So far, my experience with Troubador has been truly excellent - I couldn't envisage a better service. Written guidance at each stage has been timely and clear. Email and telephone communications have been prompt, polite and very supportive. This from all Troubador staff. I have never been left 'hanging'. I feel that we are a team. Paul.

I am in the process of publishing my third book with Troubador. Their service is highly professional and easy to deal with. They are clearly not vanity publishers and do all they can to assist authors of the promotion and sale of titles. I would recommend them to authors struggling to find reputable publishers. Troubador offer sound advice all the way through the publishing route. After the publication of my first two books I was amazed when I put the titles on Google to find them advertised throughout the book selling world.

I had promised my father to write his story. I tied the traditional route of submitting a manuscript, getting passed from one department to another, believing all was in order only to be disappointed when told it was not suitable, (a year later). The Troubador experience was entirely different. I was guided through the process in an honest way with all the options and cost laid out in a clear way. I have ended up some seven months later with a professional produced book, better than I could ever have expected. My late father would be so proud that his unique story is now out there for all to read.

I have written four books, one of which was a self help book and while looking for a publisher I approached Troubador. I attended their self publishing experience day which costs £30.00 held at their impressive premises in Market Harborough. Before attending I had received their self publishing guild, at no point anywhere in the guild does it state that they vet authors work for their self publishing arm. On the face they look like a professional company, they have smart premises and the books I viewed were of the highest standard, however their staff are by no way friendly. I felt they were hostile towards me and one female staff member showed no politeness and manners whatsoever. Unfortunately because of the rules of Trust Pilot I am unable to name her however if One looks at page 24 or Troubador’s Self Publishing guide she is second in from the right wearing a very long grey dress. Not one staff member smiled or was happy, it is as though they hate their job. The self publishing day had some very good points, however it was very badly run, far too rushed, they crammed far too much into the day. We were to receive the slides which they failed to send. Many attendees had their hands up to ask questions and were completely ignored. Ironically their pamphlet has mistakes, so what does that say about their proof reading services? Just go to page 19, it says, “ You’ve published and and are now marketing your book… The word And appearing twice. Their proof reading ability was questioned by several attendees who did not have any confidence in the paid services Troubador were trying to sell. There were some very good points in the experience day however it was structured to sell “Add On” services and NOT to help an author progress. I decided to obtain a quote to have my book self published, emailed my manuscript, how disappointed was I with the reply. “We have now had a chance to review your manuscript, but unfortunately we do not feel that we can take it on. The manuscript requires more editorial work than we can offer in-house and contains content we feel unable to put our name to.” Firstly, “The manuscript requires more editorial work than we can offer in-house” This is the same book I had published 18 years ago by Authorhouse. So what are customers paying upwards of £5000.00 for? This demonstrates just how incompetent Troubador are. They employ staff that have a degree not fit to whip a tramps ass with, who are incapable of editing a manuscript. This I believe was an excuse as they are a WOKE company who are cowards and do not want to take on brave outspoken authors like myself. Their staff are perfect candidates for this sad Snowflake society we have become. Second point: “contains content we feel unable to put our name to” My writing is designed to wake people up, to destroy political correctness and WOKEism. My last book sold over 12,000 copies. What Troubador would have been better doing that day is state they are WOKE and will vet an authors work and will not accept anything that is brave. They employ far too many sensitive silly little girls who have read one too many love stories and think life is one big fairytale. The positive I take from this is my books will be published and I will expose the WOKEism of Troubador so others will not waste their time with such a pathetic publisher. I requested a refund of my £30.00 which was actioned without question and I personally thank the Troubador staff member for doing this, it is very much appreciated. It is a great shame today that companies are controlled by political correctness WORKism. The positive is I sent my manuscript off to three rival publishers and spoke to them over the telephone first to check their stance on Controversial writing, I was very pleased that they DO NOT believe in censorship and are willing to publish my books. I have the POWER to be me and not be one of the many M.O.D.E.L Mediocre Obedient Dependent Entertained Lifeless Citizens we have sleepwalking their way through life like many a staff member that works for Troubador. So DO NOT publish with Troubador. There are far better publishers out there who have no objection publishing strong controversial work.

Having a publisher take the words from an author’s mind that have been turned into a manuscript, then from the author’s pc the manuscript turned into book form and therefore bringing the stories to life, requires trust. I know that I can put 100% trust in Troubador and with some effort from myself, to make my works into the best they can be, the amount of sheer hard work, time and frustrations that goes into writing a book is something only an author knows and can appreciate; so trust is paramount in my opinion. The books themselves are of the highest quality and all the staff at Troubador who I have worked with over the years have been fantastic, always very helpful as are the current Troubador staff I am working with now. They also offer every form of publishing and marketing options available and are honest about what you can expect from all the options available to you. But I would say that seeking expert advice from Troubador about the author’s objectives and about the publication process itself should be considered as Troubador are only too glad to give help and advice at any time. Self-publishing at first does seem very daunting, but they are there every step of the way to help you. I’ve published four titles already with Troubador Publishing and with one more currently in the publication process, I would 100% recommend them to anyone. Good luck to all authors out there!!

Troubador guided me carefully and professionally through the process of getting my novel ready for ebook distribution and then advised on marketing. I am delighted with the outcome and as bonus have great reviews on Netgalley!

It is my first time writing a book and the team could not have been more helpful. Very personable, professional and engaging. I am delighted with the finished book and it has been a life long ambition fulfilled in partnership with a great group of people who care.

I think this company can improve by not wasting writers' time. First and foremost it is part of another publisher The Book Guild Publishers. So if you submit your book to both publishers, you might think they will respond differently. No, they don't they even send you a photocopy reject note. The problem is they do not realise that when writers submit their work to two publishers, they would think one might come up with a different decision. Just be sure you do not waste time waiting for a different answer if one or the other reject your book. If you check you can see they operate from the same offices with the same address and contact details. It's time publishers become time- conscious, because not all writers are spring chickens. Some might be in their seventies and have no time to waste. Why operate under two different names if the opinion will always be the same from both publishers? It only wastes precious time, especially when a book has taken a writer seven years of his life to write, research and market.

Every member of the Troubador team was a pleasure to work with. They resolved any issues that arose at every stage of the books production, very efficiently, and at a very professional level. I have had three books published to date; the last two being with Troubador. I would recommend this company to anyone, especially those who are hoping to publish a book for the first time.

Very efficient and friendly contact with Troubador staff. I was very impressed with their suggestions for both text and cover of my book. Well done.

After failing to attract a literary agent, “there’s no market for God,” I was nearly swallowed up by dubious publishers who dispensed with literary agents, ready to emasculate the author and take control of their precious manuscript. I then found Troubador where I have remained in control while they have provided expert advice all the way. As a result, the script is much better than it was; the design is striking; and the book is a joy to hold (and I hope read!). Holly Porter and her team have achieved this with a combination of efficiency, flair and friendliness. I am already advising friends who are thinking of going down the Amazon path or any of the other ones who promise much and, from what I hear, deliver not very much, think again!

I've had such a wonderful experience working with Troubador Publishing! Each and every person I've communicated with over the course of producing/publishing my book, has been an amazing professional, always ready to help and answer questions. I can honestly say that the team makes the process as stress-free as possible, it's just been great fun and I'd definitely advise any author looking to self-publish, to consider Troubador! They have met AND exceeded my expectations.

As a first time author, I have found at every stage of the book production process the Troubador mantra is – Tell us exactly what you want. That’s what we’re here for. Troubador cultivates a relationship which is person-centred, author-centred, which engenders a growing confidence that this is truly “my book.” Each stage is explained in advance by a Production Controller who has personal oversight and liaises with the author. My numerous email queries received “same day” response, and next working day, or if needed, phoned me. The design team produced a stunning cover design which involved an original solution to a problem which they had never done before. Transition to different production teams has been seamless, faultless. From January 2024 my publication date will be 28th August. Troubador commitment to the author is outstanding. I wholeheartedly recommend Troubadour to any aspiring author.

Publishing a book with Troubador has been a good experience. I have previously published books in the USA and Canada with different publishers as well as authoring, managing and publishing over 15 prospectuses during my professional career. My book, How Great Thinkers transformed our Ideas, concerns the History of Ideas and Science with over 1000 footnotes, an 1100 entry index, over 26 colour plates and over 10 diagrams – a complex challenging job for a publisher. Be that as it may Troubador managed these challenges seamlessly and professionally with good support along the way. This understates the effort as some severe challenges were met with a cool ‘can do’ approach to fix each problem. I was particularly impressed with the multifunctional team approach which synchronizes the publishing process. To take one aspect, Troubador strongly support the important marketing function. (Other companies provide only light ‘tick the box’ services such as including your book in wholesale catalogues.) Troubador’s facility to arrange sales representation bolsters this support. For example, they provide marketing lectures and your own allocated marketing manager. I think it was great that, at the end of one marketing lecture, the Troubador authors said to each other ‘ good bye and good luck’ (!) to solidify a type of de facto ‘Troubador Community of Authors’. I also see the Troubador ‘partnership publishing’ model as an incentive for success because if they contribute to your success they share in that success. Overall Troubador have been reliable, supportive and friendly in providing a professional service.
