From what I learned in my electronic engineering degree, it makes sense that metal detectors have a thin disc that needs to be kept close to the ground. This company's “Gold Vision” detector looks like something out of a 60s movie, and its just hilarious when it spins around, and ends up pointing at the buried treasure. Have a look and decide for yourself. If they're selling these, then it's almost certainly a scam.
