it was such a great website and now when it is not free anymore the interface is disaster and unfriendly

I guess like millions of others I have been totally alienated by MSW. Used to be handy as a free/cheap source but nowhere near good enough to justify the price they are charging now. I suppose it will soon be superceded by a company with a better business model. I'll wait till then.

Was a great app/website for 20£/year… not for 68,99€/year. You’re losing one more customer…

250% price hike literally overnight without adequately informing users of the pro subscription. Totally out of whack, I will never pay for your services again. Hopefully this poorly judged company pivot will cost MSW dearly, losing a lot more more dosh than if they’d remained at £1.99 p/m. Insane levels of greed!!!!

Total rip off at new price. I’m out having been a supporter since day one. Sell out since they were bought out

Terribly priced surf webcams. £50 a year to watch beaches on cameras that freeze and don’t work most of the time? Absolute scam

I had a pro account for several years but with the recent increase of the price I stopped my subscription. 16 day forecast was like a reading by a fortune teller and changed significantly every couple hours. So there was absolutely no use of the extra days as the one 7 day forecast is still often not that accurate. Cams and all the other stuff are just features you hardly ever need. For 10 - 20€ per year its alright but more than that is plain profiteering.

I’m someone else who was caught out by the unexpected price increase. I thought there was no way I was getting the money back after reading other reviews but not so! I emailed them and 3 days later the pro subscription was cancelled and the money was back in my account. We’ll done MSW. Still only 4 stars for hiking the price ridiculously though.

Hiked annual subscription price from £20 to £50 in one go. They must have been making huge losses? Guess this is a last ditch attempt to save the business. Hope for their sake, they have a watertight business plan. Anyway like many others I'm out! Make it £30 and thousands will re-subscribe!

I had a subscription for a number of years - at 1.99 a month it was just about low enough to be acceptable for the longer range forecast access. Then it went up from 1.99 to 7.99 overnight. Insane. 400% increase. Gneral inflation is super high at almost 10% and people are struggling with that - so Magicseaweed think they can go for 400% increase and its going to be fine? That's in the same price bracket as Amazon prime or Netflix - what genius at Magicseaweed thought they were offering the same value ?

I did a free trial, loads of webcams don't work, and the ones that do work have a framerate around 1 minute per update, so you miss anything useful. £49.99 for an annual subscription to watch broken cameras..... no thanks!

Putting a paywall infront of the webcams as though they’re streaming Season 5 of Stranger Things is embarrassing.

Absolutely ridiculous and extremely unfair price increase in App subscription

MW 25 June 2022, 14:44

App was ok and presented information gathered from free sources in a user-friendly way, but the price hike from £19.99 pa to £49.99 pa is utterly ridiculous and greedy. The response from customer services to my query showed a complete disdain for the customer, so my subscription was immediately cancelled. Yet another company killing itself through greed.

Outlandish price hikes, locked camera views (can't even watch with ads) and predatory practices. You're NOT a premium streaming platform, for godsake.

2 stars as u still can use the app in free mode and its ok if you combine it with other free services like surf forecast or windy or whatever you prefer. i used premium a lot. but the recent price explosion is just ridiculous. most webcams are free anyway. swell and esp. wind forecast> 7 days is anyway very inaccurate. not worth the premium add and so exaggerated that you feel uncomfortable supporting even the free version. what you think?

Tom Green 25 February 2022, 13:30

Absolutely disgraceful company. Using the live feed from cameras which are not owned by them, cameras that have been free for years but are now hidden behind a ridiculously overpriced paywall. I sincerely hope people vote with their wallets and refuse to support this company in any way.

The idea and forecasting services are useful no doubt, but the price they charge for the them are ridiculous. The wave bouy data they use is freely available and funded using public money. Essentially, the business model relies on free open source data and then charging people for it which is somewhat unethical.

Totally agree with both recent reviews about MSW being a rip off I live in Tynemouth and my kids are keen surfers and they often use these cams to see what conditions are The forecast is never correct, so they use the BBC weather app instead I have spent quite a lot of cash at MSW on surf gear, but that's going to stop as from today and no doubt others will follow due to MSW charging £50 per year for these cams, by the way, quality and stability is poor News travels fast in the surf world, so i guess bad publicity will no doubt lose MSW a lot of business, also they never respond to reviews proving it's all about money and certainy not about the customer Social media is a very strong tool, especially when it comes to promoting companies as well as effecting future customers?
