George Romney Ltd is a fourth-generation confectionery business that you’ll find located on the edge of the Lake District National Park in the market town of Kendal. Mr Sam. T. Clarke, the great grandfather of the present Managing Director, Mr John Barron, started production of Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake in 1918 after being medically discharged during the First World War. Unable to obtain supplies of Kendal Mint Cake, he sought out and purchased an old recipe and started a confectionery manufacturing business. The company name ‘George Romney Ltd.’ was chosen as a result of Kendal’s association with the famous portrait painter, as well as the fact that the family home was on Romney Road. Romney's Kendal Mint Cake was immortalised in history on May 29th 1953 when it was carried on the first successful summit of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sirdar Tenzing. All of our production now takes place on-site at Mintsfeet Industrial Estate, Kendal, where we have been since 1969. We now employ 16 members of full and part-time staff, who collectively produce over 100 tonnes of Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake a year. We also produce a large range of fudge, gift hampers, and our very own Old Fashioned Treacle Toffee — that’s still being made to an original family recipe.

I had to contact the company as parcel did not arrive, they replied straight away putting my mind at rest and the parcel turned up the following day. Very good customer service I thought. Product is a present but I know will be very well received.

UPDATE: Great response to my review. How about running a monthly competition for customer recipes? As I've only ever tried the original and classic white version, I thought I'd try a selection. So I ordered Brown, Chocoate & Extra Strong as well. I've now tried the lot & they're all great. I can't really pick a favourite. What I've also discovered is that they make lovely partners with certain food and drinks. For example, melt a square of Brown into a cup of coffee; melt a square or two of Traditional or Extra Strong into drinking chocolate; melt a couple of squares of Chocolate & drizzle over some vanilla, chocolate or salted caramel ice cream & then re-freeze for a few minutes. The confections are also great partners for alcoholic drinks too. Like Chocolate with Bailey's or Brown with Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey. All you need is a little bit of imagination. I shouldn't end this review before mentioning the fast delivery, competitive pricing & the friendly responsive customer service.

This is my latest order of many From George Romneys Kendal Mint Cake. I've been diabetic for 45 years and for a long time now, if my blood glucose levels drop, then Kendal Mint Cake is perfect for bringing it back up to normal levels again. Not only that it tastes great, especially the extra strong.
